True Grit (2010). Coens Brothers #15. Great movie. Pretty impressive how a very young Hailee Stanfield held herself against actors like Matt Damon and very grumpy Jeff Bridges so well.

After a day spent pottering with Space themed ambient as a soundtrack , thought I’d watch a similar themed movie and alighted in Ad Astra as it was free.

Can barely remember any of the plot other than the pointlessness of the psycheval’s being slightly amusing (uncertain if this was intentional).

Was beautifully shot in the main, I’ll give it that.

John Candy : I Like Me (2025)

As expected, a very moving look back at his life and career including lots of unseen footage and photos. I didn’t really know much about his 2nd City work, or how close he was with Eugene Levy .

Felt for him when he was asked by an interviewer about his weight, his whole demeanour changed.

Im not sure I would have known it was Bill Murray talking either unless they had put his name up, he looked like a hobo.

Glad I watched it, Candy always seemed to come across as a nice guy

Silverado (1985). Of course I bought the new 4K Blu ray, and it looks (and sounds, normally I prefer original audio on old movies, but the new Dolby Atmos-track on this is amazing) awesome. One of the best discs of the year. And also available to rent and buy on digital on AppleTV if you’re not into physical media.

My favorite American made western. And if you don’t like to watch many you can just watch this, Lawrence Kasdan made sure it had all the cliches and tropes in it. But it’s a great thing when done this well. And with this cast. Worth watching just for Brian Dennehy’s best performance. Every scene with him in it is the best scene in the movie.

I only go through three films on this trip, sadly.

Nobody 2. Pretty much the same old shit as the first one, but slight more stupid. Still entertaining, but certainly won’t be watching again. 6/10

Synchronic. I really liked this, a little whimsical, but liked the characters and the concept - surprised myself. 7.5/10

Nil By Mouth. Saw this at the cinema when it first came out, but a mate mentioned it the other week and I couldn’t really remember it. Really fucking grim with some of the best acting performance I’ve ever seen - superb by Gary Oldman. 9/10

Watched the first one with the daughter, the violence was a bit of a surprise but done in a funny way.

Enjoyable light, if a little violent for a 14yo, entertainment
