Along_the_Wire interesting, thanks. I would have thought the 2 other brands you mention are a bit more mainstream.

I loved my Rose but unfortunately they no longer ship to the UK. Basso look ok but not convinced either.

Any recommendations?

Depends on your budget, but I like Ribble. Giant isn’t my cup of tea from an aesthetics point of view, but people love them and they get good reviews. Canyon are excellent value, but they veer into the bland area

Went out for my first ride since Christmas a few days. Surprisingly my fitness levels weren’t that low. But had bad saddle sore for a few days after. It was good to get out though.

Agree with Giant, very bland, always have been.

Canyons struggle with lead times as well. Crazy to think how delayed bikes are when pre covid most next year bikes were out by Sep/Oct of the previous year

I nearly bought a Canyon & a YT before i got my Trek. The price for what you get did seem very reasonable. I did speak to my LBC about Canyon’s they said they good bikes but the biggest problem was getting specific parts if anything goes wrong as you have to go direct to the manufacturer. which could take weeks. This was before covid as well.
Regarding wait times. Last week i was in my LBC as i was going to buy some new tyres. They had a lovely White EMTB and the lead time was 12 months.

Did malllorca 225 yesterday. Comparison to my times 4 years ago when I did the 312 show how badly I’ve got out of shape. I can barely move today.

benson sounds like a massive effort and achievement to me ….speaking as someone who can manage about 10 laps of regents park inner circle (thats inner not outer) before needing a rest and a lie down! it does prove however that we all have massive untapped physical potential if prepared to put the effort in.

baggers44 yesterday was psychological as much as physical. I know the climbs in the middle third really well which gave me a bit of a boost.

Amazing to see how far off my times of 2018 I was though. Kick up the arse to get back into shape.

funnily enough the last thing I wanted last night was booze.

As much as I fucking despise cyclists, whenever I’m driving on the road and see them on their silly bikes in their silly fucking lycra I think to myself, that could be Granto or Benson there - so I make sure to pull as close to the cunts as I can as I pass them and force them into a ditch / bush / wall
