Just caught up from the last few stages. The high mountains were overwhelmingly disappointing, mostly down to the complete lack of competitive spirit. There’s no defending Vingegaard and Visma, their tactics were abysmal. And if he didn’t have the legs, stop talking about winning the tour when you’re down 4 minutes with one stage left. Makes it impossible to cheer for them.
That last stage was so much better than the usual parade, I hope that’s a permanent change. Van Aert was so good. I’d never have believed that stage 21 would have been better than the previous three.
Overall, I really enjoyed watching the race again, there’s going to be a massive hole in my morning routine this week. I’d love to see a more sporting attitude from some of the bigger teams. Two and a half weeks riding for 2nd place is bloody boring.
