Dubman And they’ll reserve the right to change the plane you’re flying on at any time… I don’t avoid all 737s, but have been avoiding the MAX. Azul in Brazil switched me to a MAX for a flight in October. It was fine. I’m still here etc etc.

I’ll definitely avoid any new Boeing aircraft when they’re launched, for the foreseeable future. The new 777 should be certified in 2025, but I’ll not fly on it until it’s been accident free for a couple of years.

Dubman do you also look at any car you are about to get in to decide if it’s safe? Ie would you not get into certain cars based on their safety record?
Apparently the odds of dying in a plane are approx 1 in 11m. I don’t really get why people deliberately choose not to fly with some airplanes, unless you also way up every other decision in your life based on safety concerns.

However I also find some of this boards obeession with airport lounges, flight classes all a bit odd. An airplane is to get you from one place to another. The rest of it I really don’t give a toss about (to confirm I’ve flown business class a few times, and yes it’s nicer than economy, but the cost is stupid. Unless you use air miles)

NasserAlazzawi Most airlines opt for one or the other to save on maintenance costs however this isn’t always strictly true. It’s easy enough to check which plane usually flies on the route you want to book on a particular airline online.

Low cost is simple, easyJet fly airbus, Ryanair fly Boeing however they use Lauda Air for Balkans flights who fly Airbus so still worth checking

The 777 was/is an amazing aircraft, the tech that went into the original was way ahead of its time. The new one will build on that and then some. The 737 line has had its problems but the funny thing about this is the reporting of these incidents. There have been several Airbus incidents in recent months/weeks and they dont move the needle in terms of coverage at all. Such is the world we live in.

Yeah - across all certified plane types. That number came down massively for the 737 MAX in the couple of years after it launched. The development and production process was a clusterfuck from start to finish.

If the specific new model of car had a tendency to smash itself into the nearest wall at high speed, killing all occupants, then yes, I would probably think twice.

Most of the mentions nowadays are a pisstake of those WHO LIKE TO TALK ABOUT LOUNGES.

Amps safety is safety, Amps. I’d doubt anyone turning back to an airport on a faulty Airbus thinks to themselves, I’m glad this issue wasn’t caused by cost cutting. Granted, Boeing have had the lions share recently but if you’re going to single out 1 model of aircraft to avoid you might aswell avoid all travel. Besides, the issue with the Max was isolated and fixed across all airlines with literally thousands of flights weekly that go through normal cycles. There’s defo an element of hysteria at play.

vinnyt77 agree that Boeing have clearly fucked up here. But still seems to be safe enough to continue to use? I’m purely basing this on the percentages. If I was too worried about Boeing that I wouldn’t use them. Then fuck me I would never get into a car, or drink alcohol, or lots of other things that offer a greater risk of dying.

LT42 You mentioned coverage, and my point was that the media don’t report on run of the mill plane crashes unless they are spectacular / novel / horrific in some way, but they will report on crashes that come from a bigger story of cost cutting.

Smallman1 I’ve been to a few in my time. They are just a load of seats and free food and booze. They are basically just better places than the rest of the airport, but that’s like saying an all bar one is amazing because it’s better than a Wetherspoons. They are still shit

Airbus have their problems but they are fundamentally a better global corporation than Boeing, safety and quality are more valued in relation to shareholder profits which ultimately translates to less deaths

I agree the chances of death are still super slim but the Boeing whistleblowers were the last straw for me, and as mentioned it’s an easy choice to select an airline which flies Airbus predominantly

Let’s be honest you are literally at the whims of the manufacturer, maintenance crew and pilots and if it goes wrong you are fucked

Well they should but they don’t because “Boeing” and “737” seem to be selling better than Airbus right now. This is really unfortunate for Boeing because a birdstrike can affect any aircraft catastrophically at any moment and on the evidence we’ve seen with this event it looks more than obvious that it was human error rather than a fault of a Boeing 737, which is how some headlines are being spun.
I hate to say it but you’d never get a Korean pilot landing an aircraft in the Hudson, training is everything.
