**_"I’ve been involved in something much larger than me, and I’d like to share. I’m participating in the Pfizer COVID-19 Phase 3 clinical trial and want to share my experience so far, the modest side effects I experienced. Hopefully, this encourages others to get vaccinated as soon as eligible.
I enrolled because I wanted to contribute in some way – perhaps small but I believe meaningful – to control and defeat this virus that has devastated our every day. The personal health risk felt very small in comparison to the sacrifices of our health care and other essential workers and of the millions of people whose lives have been directly impacted by COVID.
I enrolled in October, and the first jab was hardly noticeable. There was a little soreness in my upper arm, but that was it. I was left wondering whether I got the actual vaccine or placebo. Double-blind study and 50/50 chance!
Three weeks later and back in for the second shot. A few questions on how my body responded to the first shot (none, really), drawing of blood and another COVID test. Then the second jab – as painless as the first, though some soreness a few minutes later. But that night though – whoa! – I was hit with the whole range of flu-like symptoms – aches, exhaustion, and chills. Most noticeably I had developed what I called T-Rex arm. My left arm was so sore that I could barely lift it from my side. And with elbow bent upward, my left hand was limited to flopping around a few inches from my chest (hence, the T-rex…). In general, I felt like crap!
But here’s the thing, the side effects lasted only 24 hours – by the following evening they went away just as fast as they came on. 30hrs after the shot I was back to normal except for some residual tiredness and arm soreness. And nothing since then.
All in all, a day of feeling under the weather in exchange for 95% immunity against COVID, I believe, is well worth it. For those who are still considering the vaccine, I hope you are encouraged by my experience."_**
