The NHS, like many public sector bodies, has too many chiefs and not enough Indians. It should be semi-privatised to the extent that it can become a much more efficient machine. Not sure how you could police that to ensure its not bought over completely by a us giant, like Google. They probably know enough about us all to make a reasonably accurate medical diagnosis.

What level do you go down to? Privatise each Trust or make it back into one giant machine and start again from there?

I can also see some form of health tax in the future I think. Based on lifestyle, health stats, activity etc. With the advances in tech, activity tracking devices etc, surely this will be something that is on the horizon?

I object to the way you co-opt the arguments and lexis of the left (‘democratisation’, ’the rich shouldn’t get stuff for free’) to try to hoodwink people into thinking you’re a reasonable centrist. Which is also what the current frauds and spivs in the current Conservative Government do.

I don’t know, is it? You tell me, you have more interaction with the NHS than I do.

I’m abroad most of the time, and use private healthcare when needed. Last time that was about $350 to get a wisdom tooth dealt with. I can afford it but personally it’s taught me I’d rather a system where the cost is shared by all, based on ability to pay, rather than making necessary treatment unaffordable for low income families.

More than likely, yes. I don’t want to extrapolate too much from a one hour call, but this could be an annual thing - like the flu but far more important.

Again, I don’t want to go full xeno, but China really fucked us here. From what I have been told, this was floating about well before 2020 and the Chinese government put nationalistic pride over over the health of people,. And now we are here. If they would have reached out we could have gotten a handle on this. But they did not for nothing more than stubbornness. It’s a disgrace. China might not have created it - ’though I would not be surprised if it was lab-born - but I have no problem saying they are responsible for it. Full stop.
