Funky I think people are in shock that the right have became more about freedom than the left or maybe they were all along.
In many ways it is the case.
If you look at the US you’ll also see that it was generally the more right-leaning/Republican states carrying on as normal and refusing restrictions.
Although as alistair has said above, the current Tory government has still gone further in the restriction of personal liberties than many of their core support and backbenchers agree with.
Them not chickening out of implementing the so-called “freedom day”, with it occurring earlier than most western countries and despite the desperate last-gasp wails from the left, was a brief moment of sense. However, I think the factor over which they will ultimately be judged on will be whether the introduction of Covid passports turns out to be just a threat to encourage more people to get the jab, or if they actually go through with it. If they get brought in, especially when covid seems to be becoming so much less severe, then it’ll for sure seem a sinister move. They’ll also instantly alienate a lot of their core support for good.
I agree there is still so much else “fishy” about covid I’ve not referenced above, but now’s not really the time to delve further into that.
