Mad_Cyril I really do think that they need to start telling the high risk groups in society living in those areas to isolate alongside the current guidelines if they want hospital admissions to stay stable. A complete lockdown or closing of the hospitality isn’t the answer.

Well if you all need some good news…likely to have not one but two and possibly even three vaccines by early next year. Given Great Britain’s relatively small size, geographically speaking, and strong health infrastructure, you all could be well on your way by mid Spring. That might seem ages away, but for a pandemic of this size, a vaccine turnaround of essentially one year is unprecedented.

Enthusiasm tempered by the fact they’ll likely give it those pesky health and education workers first. Might be a while longer before it hits the general public.

Also interested in how long immunity lasts. Reckon it might be a year max like the flu?

Health care workers and those at high risk would be the first roll out, hence the mid-Spring hopes for the more general population. There’s also a monoclonal antibody therapy (Trump took it) that might be used post-infection as a treatment to stop Covid in its path. I’ve long thought we need a strong treatment along side a vaccine. Hopefully that’s where we’ll be in a few months.

Speaking of “roll” out. Last year around this time I did a presentation for our new director of the health department. My role. The role of HHS within the department. Blah blah blah. But I spelled “role” as “roll” the entire time like a fucking idiot. He came up after and said thanks for the info…but do you know “role”….I wanted to die.

Read a fascinating article comparing COVID to TB, that argued that treatment is the way to deal with it and a vaccine will just be an additional bonus, that only improves our chances of returning to functioning in groups.
