Our policy is currently 8 months post-second jab for a booster but you all in the UK did it very different than us. We did the second jab two weeks after the first whereas the UK had months in between. Don’t have an opinion on what’s better/ideal.

Makes it much easier to come and go, although there is no talk of being able to skip the minimum 14 day quarantine yet.

*By the way, I did 35 days - 21 in Shanghai (hotel), then 14 on return to Beijing (in my apartment) as I’d been through a medium-risk district of Shanghai.

As stated, they seem to have it sorted here in China. Maybe the rapid tests the UK uses are dogshit?

Negative test is preferable to vaccinated. Because if you’re vaccinated you can still test positive and spread the Miley. Positive test and off to strict quarantine with you (and possibly your close contacts). End of fucking story. None of this ‘trusting people’ to self-isolate.

They’re not so bad. The BinaxNOW antigen tests have been quite reliable. Particularly for those symptomatic. It’s an inexpensive (<$25) and quick option when PCR tests are taking so long. Keep in mind we do not count rapid antigen tests in our case counts. If you’re rapid positive, you need a confirmatory PCR. This has led to gaps in cases as people who don’t have insurance (#MERICA) or are service avoidant (often undocumented) don’t get counted as they never get a PCR. That’s honestly on us, IMO, as a health department. Our messaging hasn’t been great and we’ve often caused more confusion than anything. ANYWAY that was a ramble….point is the rapid antigen tests are pretty good for the most part.

bosstrabs i’m not sure what’s causing the false negatives (test quality, human error?), but it’s true in canada as well. and a negative test 72 hours out only measures a single point in time, even if it’s perfectly accurate. i’m all for both vaccines and tests together, but they’re not equivalent when it comes to efficacy. get everyone vaccinated, boosters as necessary, and move on with life.

And I’ve done ‘central quarantine’ (as it’s called) here, my first 14 days. It’s not bad. Just a nasal swab every few days and temperature check twice a day from someone in a hazmat suit. And you’ll pay 6300 rumbas for the privilege.

I might be a huge vagina (very possible) but I found quarantine incredibly difficult. Granted, where I stayed in Oakland is not a big place (it’s usually just me so I don’t need much), but those walls got very small by like day 12 (ended up doing 17 days due to symptoms). Top floor so no outdoor space. There’s only so much one can read or watch before getting a bit stir crazy. If it wasn’t for Danny Tenaglia Athens I might not be here today. Death by suicide as Mac Zimms plays in the background.

Get all these cunts locked up. Put them in fucking proper quarantine for 14 days. It’s really fucking simple. Lock the door and give the cunts food through a flap. All of them. It’s not inhumane, I’ve experienced it. It’s common sense.

And if someone shows proper symptoms, they get shipped off to an isolation ward at the local hospital.

Nothing we can do. That’s the problem. We were doing weekly testing at various facilities. But as you say, there’s a 7 day gap there. I don’t know. I guess we just do want we can, take a harm reduction approach, and give it the old college try. As for hospital capacity, @benson can speak more to that in the UK but here….the two hospitals I have the most familiarity with (Highland in Oakland and SF General) are often at 150-200% capacity. That’s just how it goes. This year has been tough as the number of shootings is through the roof. Highland and SFGH are both level one trauma centers so that’s where gunshot victims go. People with Covid shouldn’t really be going to those facilities, but they don’t know any better (again, poor messaging).

jonattonyeah I didn’t enjoy quarantine. It’s not easy but I toughed it out.

I did 14 days ‘central quarantine’ (it’s not a single location, so I don’t know exactly why it’s called that), that’s the proper strict fucker. Then I was allowed to do +7 in a hotel, provided I stayed in Shanghai and took 2 more nucleic acid tests. I had to keep track of my movements by checking in everywhere with an app and couldn’t do unnecessary stuff. That was fine as I could go to the park for exercise and the shopping mall for essentials (so long as I could justify it if asked).

Then +14 isolation in my apartment in Beijing was absolutely fine because I basically just lived on Indian takeaways and booze deliveries, it was magnificent, like Rhouses. I did some massive logs just like him too. Again, only allowed out for exercise and nucleic acid tests (4 more).
