20 years ago, peak time prog bangers, and probably when many on here who are now 40-ish really started hammering the clubs. Money in the pocket from working, or away at uni.
What do you remember from those years?
For me, people buying expensive combats (e.g. Maharishi, over £100) and Air Max 95s or 97s.
Having a discman and taking it on the train (or wherever) with you, and having a CD wallet and having to plan what 10 CDs you were going to take for the journey.
56k dial-up.
The Y2K/Millennium Bug panic. Stoner mates claiming planes were going to fall out of the sky on the stroke of midnight and such things because of it.
The Prince song 1999 and Robbie Williams Millennium being inescapable.
The Phantom Menace being an ‘event’ but the movie being utter shit. Not being into Star Wars but still ending up watching it.
United winning the treble.
Great movies: American Beauty, American Psycho, Almost Famous, Requiem for a Dream.
Greasy spoon cafes still being a thing everywhere really. Starbucks and Coffee Republic seeming like a sophisticated novelty.
Oakley sunglasses. People having their hair twisted up like a member of 5ive.
People actually bothering to argue over whether they’d rather bone Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears.
Turbo Shandys (half pint with a Smirnoff Ice stuck in the top)/Dirty Vimtos etc.
Getting all your music off Napster.
Being a student, doing fuck all all day except watching Diagnosis Murder.
