What have you read recently?
Homegrove Going through Dan Simmons’ sci fi-books. Read the Hyperion-books already
Is Hyperion worth a go?
Wasily Eyes of the Dragon was a great book. Think it was one of the rare few I read in one go.
Mad_Cyril Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan
Btw if anyone wants a great non-taxing fictional thriller can I suggest ‘I am Pilgrim’ by Terry Hayes. Read it a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Sequel should be out soon.
mono-stereo Absolutely. Depth of imagination is remarkable, but also written well. I’ve tried a lot of big name sci fi-writers, and most just suck at characters, and dialogue. All they have is big ideas.
Homegrove Cheers, I’ll give it a whirl.
The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross - John M. Allegro
A book arguing that Christianity was a front for an outlawed ancient Sumerian fertility cult, Jesus didn’t exist and was in fact a proxy for the psychedelic mushroom, amanita muscaria. From reading it there is defo something there, but he overstates his case and stretches some of his conclusions which undermines the whole endeavour. His writing style doesn’t help much either.
Two and a half terrifying acid orgies out of five.
Stephen King - Later
A quick (250 pages), easy read from the master. Really enjoyed it. He’s been doing this for 50 years and is still on top of his game. I told my coworker that I could not imagine being talented in anything for 50 years. He replied that well you’re not talented in anything to begin with.
Currently reading Mythos by Stephen Fry. Loving it!
“Cryptoassets” by Chris Burniske and Jack Tatar. Top notch.
Pimp: The Story of My Life
stellar read
Currently reading Ben Macintyre’s Agent Zigzag, a biography of a British double agent during WWII. Excellent reading.
