Reading The Long White Cloud by Buket Uzuner.

It’s about a New Zealand woman who goes back to Gallipoli to find the lost grave of her great-grandfather who died in the Battle of Gallipoli. Pretty good story, that battle was brutal beyond imagination.

Started reading Carl Cox’s book this evening. He may not be a lot of people’s fav DJ but you can’t knock his work rate & passion for his craft. I’m only a 3rd in and didn’t realize he had his own sound system in the early rave days and was often booked for his SS and DJing.

The Midnight Library wasn’t terrible. Was expecting it to get preachy, but imo it wasn’t.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix was… fantastic. Very entertaining. Read it over a couple of nights. It got way more brutal than I thought it would.

Finally finished Adam Buxton’s Ramble Book. Lol’d many times, took me back to my ‘privileged’ boarding school life in the UK, made me think about my friendships and how it’s so easy to connect over things like music and movies. Also was quite emotional and tender reading about his last couple of months with his father.

Jules72 hilarious bit on the latest christmas podcast with Joe Cornish about the audio book. Where they talk about how the publisher had to bring in a professional audio book reader because Buckles wasn’t doing a good job of it. I wish there was more stuff about his TV career and the stories from the time, that felt a bit rushed.

Read Jockey Sluts tribute to Andrew Weatherall on my Chewbacca inflatable today.

Great to read the interviews and stories, tributes at the end had me a little.

Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who’s past has been soundtracked by the man.

Carl Cox - Oh Yes Oh Yes.

A bit bland, it was basically an account of everything he’s done, this happened, then this happened, then this happened etc. And him being such a nice guy it was also utterly without skeletons in closets.

A few funny bits (him still owing money to Oakenfold for his first pair of Technics-decks Oakey bought him), and a couple of good stories aside I’m not sure it was worth 20 €.

Homegrove damn had this lined up next… it’s true though that DJing by and large doesn’t make for interesting reading. Think the only really good book I’ve read by a DJ was Dave Haslam’s Sonic Youth Slept on my Floor and that was more about the Manc music revolution of the 80s and 90s.

Almost finished it myself. To be honest I was only really interested in his early rave days as it was a big part of my life. We even used to buy tickets off his girlfriend Maxxine. Was a bit annoyed he hardly mentioned playing at Sterns as he was up there loads l. Although he did mention Mensa who got his first gig in Ibiza. The Burning Man section I also enjoyed.

I doubt i’d read a DJ’s book….can’t stand most of the cunts. However I do like him as a person. Met him a few times as my mate has warmed up for him.
