Wasily The irony of the daily mail sending somebody, presumably on expenses, to report on a ski trip and write an article about how people were going there on expenses.

I am speaking at it so thought it best I go. Plus I won the ski competition last year so need to go and defend my win 🙂

Don’t see a problem with it.

When you experience first hand the benefits some of these people bring, I have no problem with a ridiculously minuscule % of my income supporting further practice development.

Having to listen to Benners waffle on about Uncle John’s latest Transitions show, for an hour or so in a conference setting, IS AN OUTRAGE though!

If the rotas are organised in advance to ensure uninterrupted coverage, I don’t see a problem Good for morale and all that. I’m sure Bens will confirm, but the doctors say they are subsidising some of the cost themselves.

Happy to report most of it comes out of our pockets although it is tax deductible. The cost of the conference ticket is probably out of our £500 / year study budget. The rest we pay for.

Not the ski pass or hire, obvs. 4 hours off lectures a day. 8-10 and 4-6. Some top notch speakers. It’s 4 days but I’ve taken 3 days study leave and 2 days annual leave. Happy to report I am playing it with a straight bat.

Oh, and I have been working nights covering the junior doctor strikes (basically working as a junior overnight). Again happy to report that I am working at the coal face. Plus I do it all for time in lieu and not for money.
