Sounds like a right con! Over here you pay in and expect cover for issues up to a certain amount which is generally quite a substantial sum depending on several factors.

Hursty you pay a monthly premium, there is a “deductible” you pay before your insurance kicks in, there is a cap on how much you can ultimately spend, and different products and services are covered up to different amounts. It is absolute hell. Worst thing in all of the western world. The brainwashing that has kept us from storming the gates with fire and pitchforks is something I will always be amazed by.

My brother lives in New York and went to the Dr for some jabs before he went travelling. The Dr deliberately asked him a load of irrelevant questions when he was getting his jabs to change the nature of the appointment to a consultation so he could overcharge the insurance for the appointment. Lol.

My uncle and aunty have been in the states for the last 3 years but are now returning due to the cost of healthcare primarily, literally scared to go to the Docs for anything due to the cost.

My uncle had a cut above his eye which needed a few stitches and it cost him $10k lol

Treated first then given a bill. It is illegal to deny anyone medical treatment. In some sad way you can be better off going in completely broke. If you are good enough at being your own advocate, you can properly take advantage of the welfare state. The people who are really fucked are middle class slobs like all of us who have employer based healthcare. These are the people that can be tracked and billed until their bloodlines are snuffed out.
