OK mate try this.
- On the Pioneer kit when recording, the best quality comes from the trims being set to 0db (not going up into the oranges towards red). I dont know what the Denon record comes from.. however…
- If you are recording out of the Master into Audacity, and the master lights are above 0db (one white light) the signal can come in too hot for a solid recording if the Pioneer gear’s behaviour is anything to go by.
If you want more volume just turn the speakers up so that 0db sounds as loud as you want when recording.
When I record my DJ mixes I’ll only adjust the master on Pioneer mixers, and keep my trims at 0db (1 orange light) or maximum 2 orange lights (+3db) seems to be okay. The Rec out on Pioneer mixers listens to trim levels only not the master levels.
3 orange lights (+9db gain) is best described like blowing too much down a straw and the detail in the sound is rushing through so clarity can get lost especially when we adjust it in audacity afterwards to be louder.
