303abuser …yes looks really versatile and I know the build quality will be the best. My SpaceEcho pedal makes some fucking wild sounds but is totally impractical for DJ’ing.

Intrigued what the pricing will be as the Rebel tech stuff seems very reasonable by the standards of some Eurorack stuff.

Unbroken1 i’m curious to see what the delay/reverbs will do. if they’re creative fx, that might sell me on it, although i still want that boss space echo pedal too. i’ve been running the dfam through the analog four to use the delay/reverb/chorus and that’s been useful, so i would assume this could be a lot better as the a4 isn’t exactly new tech.

303abuser …SpaceEcho can absolutely turn sounds inside-out but it’s pretty difficult to control. Not sure I want to get rid of it yet though as I figure it’ll be nice to run the Peak through it at some point and capture what comes out…

There seems to be quite a move towards pedal FX for DJ’ing, the Strymon reverbs/echos etc, but un-synced FX only really sound good for transitioning between difficult-to-bridge tracks, and even then, not really dancefloor stuff.

Would like something with tempo control for v subtle DJ FX… had the Pioneer RMX1000 for a while which was a lot of fun, despite me only using it to about 50% of its capabilities. I’ve emailed Justin at Isonoe, will let you know if I have any joy.

I had lots of fun with the Mastersounds EFX the one time I played a system that had it, and I had about 15 minutes to get familiar with it. It was hooked to a Xone 96. Which is also a wonderful mixer BTW.

…it looks pretty good but there’s no tempo sync on the MK1 is there? Pretty sure I heard there was a new version due with it on.

Gotta say the Pioneer auto tempo detect was pretty spot-on.

Homegrove I had lots of fun with the Mastersounds EFX the one time I played a system that had it, and I had about 15 minutes to get familiar with it

It’s not quantized is it? Is that not a massive ballache?

Unbroken1 yeah, let me know what he says, i’m curious. the hard to control bit is great for the dubby stuff i make, but i can imagine for ‘tighter’ genres or djing it could be a bit of a problem if the feedback gets out of hand. i love the strymon pedals too, they just seem prohibitively expensive when you’re not making a living playing live.

303abuser You’d have no problem selling em on, looking at getting an El Capistan as a lot of dub producers rave about em & the savings on eBay are minimal

Matt you can change the display on the XZ - maybe there’s a setting in Rekordbox or the hardware itself? I’ve got three options

                • Matt replied to this.

Along_the_Wire there are settings where you can change what’s displayed. Just can’t remove the specific element I want. it’s not that big of a deal, just a slight irritation.

zoogly yeah i’m not worried about selling, it’s collecting gear that’s the problem. 🤣

Finally had a go on Denon SC5000.

I’ve been on Pioneer since 2013, with a controller and Xone 92 in between but I’m generally streaming/DJing live on Pioneer.

Bearing in mind this isn’t the newer SC6000…

                  I liked:

                  • The screen was really nice,
                  • The content and the way Hot Cues were displayed was useful
                  • I plugged in my Rekordbox 6 USB exported stick and it worked (I had reservations about this)
                  • I really liked where they safely hide the USB stick slots under where a CD drive would have been. Much safer there.
                  • Denon have +4 +8 +10 and +16 pitch adjust speed I think - when I’m used to using +6 a lot so I chose 4 which worked nicely.

I think Denon could have improved on (and might have, already, on SC6000):

                  • The pitch fader on the SC5000 doesn’t feel like it ‘stops’ itself properly - I like to have a definite bite but it kept sliding as if it wanted to move as I had decided where I wanted to stop (my finger moving off would often continue moving the slider past where I wanted)
                  • The jogwheel was too tight. There might have been a tightness adjuster I just didn’t get into that (maybe that’s only on SC6000).
                  • Off an analysed rekordbox USB stick it still had to reanalyse every track I loaded but it didn’t take long. It definitely wasn’t happy with Pioneer’s analysis, and the BPM took some time to appear.
                  • Beatmatching wise, getting the beat ‘in’ was different to what I was used to - but I managed it from going on cold, no practise - just straight on air.

All of these are little things, it wasn’t prohibitive, just a different feeling. I don’t think I sounded like I was mixing on anything different

I didn’t get a chance to explore things fully as this was about doing the performance in the moment but I did notice the menus seemed extensive and next gen. The dual layer thing isn’t for me, I need a third physical deck. It would be amazing if a Media Player went down and you had an extra layer as a backup; I just wouldn’t choose to DJ dual layer.

Are they cool? Really cool! Am I eager to move to Denon? I’m not. It doesn’t improve your performance just the screen basically works a lot nicer - but the Prime 4 would be amazing as a commercial/wedding/mobile DJ (hard drive bay, dual zone sound outputs).

Once you’re DJing on Denon or Pioneer, you’re just DJing moving from one track to the next with more of a focus on the Mixer, and they all basically do the same thing.

I’m yet to try the SC6000, they have a better chance of swaying me but in all honesty for me it’s about turning up to an event and having everything where I know it when performing live.

…v brave using the Denon on the radio never having used it before!

Nick Warren’s face when he saw the Denon’s on stage at Barefoot 😆

Unbroken1 Ha yeah.. I wonder if it was amazement or bemusement! Those were my mate’s SC6000s.

….mainly concern, ’til he saw the CDJ2K’s up there too

Does anyone have any experience with Reloop mixers?
I am contemplating buying a 4 channel mixer from them. THanks in advance.

…only the Mixtour which I used for a little while when I was on Traktor.

Decent bit of kit, quite well built and sounded OK. No experience of the bigger/4-channel mixers though..

                      Theconsole

I played in a back room at a new club a couple of years ago on one. I’d never seen anything by Reloop before this moment. It had the layout similar to the Pioneer 900 nexus.

After two hours on it, it was really nice to use to be honest - sounded great on a void sound system. Everything was in a similar place to a Pioneer.

I googled the range to see which one it was and I was on a Reloop RMX-80. At £549 online, I mean.. wow.

The only reason it’s this cheap is the brand name. They also do lovely turntables that are like technics.

The up faders on the mixer have the looser resistance format more like the allen and heath.

It has 3 x USB hubs for connecting additional midi controllers, too.

                      Definitely worth considering.

…interesting vid on the ARS from Juno:

More bossness. Wish I’d got into all this 25 yrs ago instead of spending my $ on pills and stuff!!

Thanks Nassir for the review. I was going to use the New 4channel one with bluetooth , a Xone K2 , and traktor, however I was working with my new Xone K2 and the Traktor demo, and realized I could do what I wanted to do on my DDJ400 and the DDj is a lot more intuitive than trying to remember what i mapped certain functions to do.
                          I realized I was re-inventing a wheel that did not need re-inventing.

Booked an appt @ Mastersounds HQ for this Thursday, should be a laugh for them when I step up to the mixer 😂

                          …do they take Paypal Credit in-store? 😉

I doubt it, but you can always go home and order 🙂

                          You coming?

                          @Unbroken1

Quick question if you’re about. DO you / have you used a Linear PSU before? Note Mastersounds sell but assuming it’s an audiophile thing and not something a heathen like me would really notice / appreciate??

Mad_Cyril …it’s basically a big external transformer, the V6 had a monster one and the Isonoe has one as standard too. Basic advantage is that your power unit is outside of the mixer, better regulated power (supposedly), no interference and very low noise, expensive though.

                              Unbroken1 expensive though.

That’s the thought. Seems a bit OTT for a hobby. Also not very energy efficient

…no the A&H one was like having an extra radiator in the room

                              @Unbroken1
Wise to stay away, had a really nice hour or so down @ Mastersounds HQ.

Amazing setup and the team were very friendly, patient with my beginner questions, and very genuine with offers of support going forward.

Learned loads about their history and principles.

Walked out with a Radius 2 and FX, couldnt get over how simple and effective they are. The sound through their speakers was phenomenal.

Just need to find some media players now, and a monitors to do them justice.

In the meantime will spend the afternoon staring at them!!

Nice one, MC. What are you hooking them up to?

It’s got to be a pair of technics surely.

LOL, haven’t got the chops for that Dubbers.

There’s a couple of SC6000’ on root Matt

I’ve gone backwards and only use vinyl for mixing these days. I just love the simplicity of it.
