Give it a rest. Who cares about Ramsey or Michellin stars. The former is the chef version of Trump and the latter is a tire company. And how many of these fancy restaurants in Britain can actually be called British? I’d guess most are very not-British and those that are use French technique to cook British ingredients. How amazingly British! Who gives a fuck. If I’m spending 200+ on dinner, it better be good, you Michelin cunt. Keep clutching pearls over food you’ll never eat out of some weird sense of comradery, Dermo. I care about a good Tuesday take out for $10. And we’re good here with that here in the terribleness that is America. What I also know is that we don’t need British bellends forcing potatoes and truffle oil into absolutely everything.

As for Dave, boring as ever. Never anything to do or contribute other than constant negativity. Never throws his balls out on the line; just takes a knife to what others say. Maybe it’s time to getting a willing lay, Dave? Or are you out of time?

      • The state of this. Arguing over how fried potatoes should be put on fucking bread of all things. And getting pissy about what that nonsense is called. I’ve left this thread alone because English “cuisine” is an oxymoron, as much as it might be my comfort food, and discussing it seems like debating what snow tastes better - what’s the point. You don’t have to worry about anyone screwing up your disgusting “cuisine” because literally nobody is looking to your isles for culinary inspiration. I do find it hilarious that the best argument you all can make for gastronomic superiority is pointing out the absolute worst of middle American carnival foods (as if that’s normal) with a, “see, maaaaaate, we’re not that bad!” Is that it? Is that all you have? Rote Indian food? Overpriced tweezer and foam hilarity? An over-cooked Sunday roast with a shit cask bitter?

You can have all that hogwash. Debate it to death. ’Cause nobody else wants it.

        • All pretty meh for me. Soooo my Top 5 Plastic City tracks of all time:

Terry Lee Brown Jr. - Terry’s House [Plastic City - 1996]
Rozzo - Into Your Heart (Space Mix) [Plastic City - 1997]
The Mulder - The Police [Plastic City - 1997]
          G-Pal - Aegan Sea [Plastic City - 2000]
Future Funk - Switch Lock [Plastic City - 2000]

That’s because you’re old. Like me. Not for you to “get.” But as expected from Jaded Clubbers. It is in the name, after all. A constant whine fest about anything and everything. Boring is right.

Like this track or not, but there’s plenty of Rap being knocked out today. Just very localized. I can tell you that when our DJ dude plays this on a packed night everyone goes bananas. Part of it being that people like seeing a local Oakland kid making a name for themselves and getting out of the ’hood. There’s pride in it, I guess.

Many years ago (25 or 30?), American McDonald’s used beef tallow in their fries. This was not done in most other countries, particularly those with a large Hindu population. It’s not unreasonable for people to prefer one over the other or at least find them different.

Heat is no joke. It gets HOT routinely inland from where I am. A fellow, who had ultramarathon experience, got disoriented along the Redwood ridge area last year. Wandered off the trail in 106 F heat. When they found the poor guy, his GPS showed he was stumbling about in circles before finding his final deathbed against a tree. Real shame. Usually a popular hiking trail, somebody would have been around to help on better days, but not in heat like that. Congrats on the finish, 303, but be safe out there.

Nice call on the oldie. Casa Del Soul was a blind purchase for a bit there. Ubiquitous this side of the world but likely limited to the Tyrant types on the other side of the pond.

                • The hell! Baseball is already overly complicated and inane. Why make it even worse!

                • Don’t think we have a full Beatport update yet (we seem to get a lag on the west coast) but for the time being….

                  Buba - Kabala Dance [Buttress]
Ackermann - Oooh I Love It [Uncage]
                  Jasper Tygner - 92 [Needwant]
                  b4nkshot - Let’s B Gone [Record Union]
Justin Jay & Benny Bridges - Queso [Club Designs]

                  OLDIE

                  Kelly & Yates - Horns Aplenty [Definitive - 1997]

Stupid filtered house banger (basically a Dave Angel rip-off) that I used to play out all the time to good returns.

@SM001 Stimming - Alpe Lusia (Robag Wruhmes Troi Sdett) - couldn’t that almost count as an oldie or is that something new?

@alistair Lea Porcelain - 100 years (Roman Flugel remix) - was on my short list the other week. Good tune. The Blawan mix is….something. But if it was dropped at the right time - say around 4:00 AM on a big system - I’m sure it could be a proper face-melter.

That’s a shame. Caan is great in it. The date scene, I think I posted earlier, is fantastic. Of its time but well worth a watch if you like cinema, specifically noir films. Michael Mann’s first film, I believe. It feels similar to Mann’s Collateral if you’re a fan of that.

                  • whatever

The acting and the direction drive it. Worth a go and just two episodes left (seven in total) so not a big commitment. But too many scenes where it’s like, cool, Bridges likes his dogs and his dogs like him; oh, his relationship with his daughter is fraught. 20 years ago it’s an excellent movie like “The Fugitive” but that’s not what gets made anymore. All in all, by modern “prestige” TV standards it’s very good. I think you’ll like it. I’m enjoying it.

                    • whatever

It’s good. Should’ve been a movie rather than a drawn out series but worth a go. Lithgow and Bridges are both very good. Amy Brenneman is always perfectly fine doing her acting thing.

Around here it’s a logistical issue. In the prior two whatever years there was an entire Covid infrastructure in place with many of us 100% FTE on that. I’m now 100% back on HIV along with most others who returned to their normal jobs. We were hoping for insurance/medical homes to take over the lead for vaccines and boosters as we, as the public department, help those with no safety net. But we seem to have some bottlenecks. The other problem is that the model used for disaster service work is taken from FEMA which is more of a military approach in the event of an earthquake or hurricane. It was never intended to be something that lasted as long as this has. Square peg, round hole. Wish I had better answers but I’m not sure what the plan is.
