My first solo Live in the Livingroom for almost a year. Very much solo, just me and the cats in the house when I recorded this. First beats kick in at 20 minutes or so, and then it’s very chuggy for an hour or two. Haven’t really played a lot of below 120 bpm house music in a long while.

Smallman1 they seem to enjoy, or not mind, house music. I didn’t spare the volume, and the master was quite high before they went upstairs to get away.

Keen to understand the planning behind these longer sets…..do you do any practice runs, or are you ‘winging ’ a few of the transitions i.e. you don’t know for definite how it will sound , so you’re gambling a bit, if you get my drift?

gcw Carl Cox-way. I make a playlist of a hundred tunes and play of those. I heard him say that in an interview and was inspired by it. I know my tunes, and I try to focus what I’m doing. Seat of the pants mostly, though the playlist I do put in order before starting, not that I’m always following it. I don’t think anyone would think playing a preplanned set for seven hours fun.

Homegrove good to know. I had a chat with a DJ a while back who explained that he finds 3 or 4 tracks that really work together and treats them like a mini set , he then focuses on piecing together those mini sets into longer parts - bit like a jigsaw I suppose.

I myself try to avoid too much planning, but got a way to go yet. I’d say on half the times I try a transition for the first time, it won’t quite work….but when it does work its a great feeling!

gcw I’ve been on this non stop (pfe pandemic monthly gigs, during and after not so much, but still plenty of hours at home) for 23 years now, so that helps too.
