Just got back home after a great night yesterday in Glasgow at ‘Emerge’ which was Jamie Stevens up first and then a 5 hour Kasey Taylor & Anthony Pappa back to back set.
Last year they did this on the rooftop of the Radisson Red hotel but this time it was at ‘Box Hub’ which was a 100 foot long rectangular room. When we got in there we were a bit worried because the acoustics at the back were very poor, you could not distinguish what any of the tracks were; however the maximum capacity of the venue was 200 people but there was probably room for about 100 people more - because it was 200 there was plenty of room to dance and we managed to get a good spot near the front where the sound was decent, and there was none of the constant barging past people that happens at most of these events.
We caught the last hour of Jamie Stevens set - it was his usual 4/4 house, he’s a really energetic DJ and plays some good stuff. He dropped a remix of Jark Prongo - Movin Thru Your System which went down well.
Pappa and Kasey Taylor then played what I thought was a solid set although there were a few filler tracks across the 5 hours. Lots of really chunky beats and Kasey played 3 or 4 very atmospheric tracks that I’m keen to hear again. Jamie Stevens came back for the final 30 mins or so and played Infusion - Legacy, Infusion - Love & Imitation (unknown remix), Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (unknown remix - not the Infusion bootleg). For the encore they played Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra - Too Much Information (Lalou mix) but the power got cut before the breakdown as they obviously had a hard curfew at 12pm.
Some good tracks played on the evening and the highlight for me was an unknown remix of Reflekt - Need To Feel Loved - it wasnt the Guy J remix that was floating about, it was a proper prog version of it. Went down a storm. I also heard Pappa & Nick Stoynoff - 435 and Pappa & Fauxplay - Forever Seeking - they got great receptions.
Finally, it was a really good crowd. Probably 30% female and there is clearly a local group who go to these events as we recognised a lot of faces from last time. It’s a good thing they have going up there. Their next event is Hernan & Nick Warren in October at a venue next door to Box Hub which has probably got a bigger capacity.
