I get what he’s saying though, the map of Europe with temperature labels is misleading, it’s not that hot in the majority of those areas

They could at least show the average for each country on that day, it seems they are cherry picking the highest from a particular area

Not sure how it’s climate change denying as well, I think we all agree it’s 100% happening. My issue is the lack of action from governments, there aren’t even any restrictions on advertising fossil fuel companies yet like tobacco, we have a long way to go. It just feels like the average person is being blamed sometimes when it should be governments/companies getting the attention

Temp isn’t the only caveat though, forest fires and water shortages have increased along with the sustained temps.

Plus, 34 is fucking HOT

Rest of Europe is too hot and people here are complaining because it’s only been +21 or so in most of Scandinavia for the past three weeks, with some rain. We should enjoy a summer like this while we can.

I was in Cephalonia and Zakynthos is the late 80s and both of them were on fire like that.
We watched from the beach as 3 or so helicopters with big buckets on spent all day dropping water scooped from the sea onto the fires, whilst we drank Mythos and Heineken export in a taverna.

I’ll be FEWMIN if my Greek holiday gets cancelled next month!

gcw Don’t worry about all the bruhuha at home, GCW. It’s only 45 degrees!

44 at the moment where I am. More if a melter than Hugo. Tbh I fucking love it. Cornettos and Mai Tais on tap. Anyone complaining can stfu.

    Smallman1

I hear the weather in Corfu is absolutely amazeballs, Edwand. Get yourself over there asap.
I’ve even arranged a platter of local cheeses for your arrival. Admittedly most of which has melted but hey it’s the thought that counts.

Amps Amps, serious question, can you explain how Just Stop Oil intend to fulfil their mission?

Had a look at their website, nothing on there which talks about a strategy. Interestingly there is a quote on the homepage from Sir David King, the chief sceintific advisor to the government which states we have 3-4 years to get a grip of climate change

He has just been quoted by the Guardian talking about the Greek wildfires “If you are in one of these very warm areas and you haven’t got air conditioning indoors you could suffer terribly – many people will die from heat stress.”

So, more air con required David?

      Blessed are the cheese makers

Bit high brow for here but Just Stop Oil were on the Moral maze on R4 this week. I have to say that I switched off after the JSO founder and then a GB news Christian.

I think the main thing we need to turn down is the rhetoric and turn up the action.

benson What is the action to be taken? Most people carry on with their lives regardless because fundamentally the leaders don’t give a shit, we have no real climate action from the top down.

No restrictions on fossil fuel advertising, no laws forcing house builders to install solar/heat pumps, no restrictions on travel, no real agriculture reform, incessant consumerism and all the pollution that goes with it grows exponentially each year, the list goes on

Even though the UK claims to give a shit, the biggest actors like, China/USA never sign up to any agreements to reduce fossil fuel use, so there is never any real traction globally.

Hursty Travel restrictions for our very own Judith Charmers. Heaven forbid.

Hursty Its not the cause I have issue with, or even the tactics. Its the language of saying that governments are complicit in mass murder. The reverend guy was GB news and saying that he thought climate change had become an industry rather than actual action, whilst at the same time seeming to deny it was man made. He then went on about ‘genocide’ in relation to abortion laws.

Its unhelpful in my view. I happen to think we really do need to do something about it. Not just climate change, but consumerism in general, the constant push to make and buy more stuff. There is something slightly rotten at the core with that.

Hursty we have 3-4 years to get a grip of climate change

I’m inclined to agree. Read some article a hole back saying the earth is fucked with twenty years. Thank fuck I’m 52 and a half.
