jonattonyeah last year was rough as we had no receivers to get open; renfrew was a late round pick, a small slot receiver, and was probably carr’s 2nd best option, next to waller at te. ab going crazy really fucked the entire offense.
i’m talking potential with carr, but if you look at last years stats, there’s an argument to be made he was very close to top 10 already. out of the guys you listed, mahomes, lamar rodgers, wilson and deshaun are all better. carr has the potential to be in that group. brees is on the edge of the cliff, dak is garbage, ryan looks done, stafford plays for the lions (he’s obviously good, but it’s the lions), wentz is average at best and i wouldn’t trade carr straight across for him.
i maintain that brady has never been a great qb and i’m not going write an essay about it, but i could. take out the coach, the cheat, league bias, and the tuck game and he probably doesn’t start in the league. he’s going to be exposed this year and people will blame it on age. rivers is awful and has no arm left; ben might be ok if he’s in better shape, but he’s almost done; murray might be great; mayfield is way over-hyped considering he’s done nothing; tannehill had one good season and isn’t in carr’s league.
there’s a lot of mediocrity at the qb position at the moment. old guys on the decline, young guys who haven’t proved it yet and carr is as good an option for the next year or two as we’re going to find. that said, bringing in competition is always a good thing and if he plays poorly this year with a better supporting staff, then cut him loose.
