Rough luck. I thought the ref letting things continue to play on in most cases made it a really great watch. No one getting away with much. Good pace from both teams throughout as well. Sorry England, you gave it a good try!

alistair this is exactly it - did you see Italy rejig their formation to contain England? No… chellini said our subs bench could have won the euros… maybe he was onto something eh… why was foden discarded after his first game (average-ish admittedly)…. Why was sancho discarded after one decent game… Shitgate is suspicious of flair.. unless throwing on subs in the second half, his inclination is always to make negative tweaks…

I’ll never understand penalty kicks to decide a game. That’s like a free throw contest to end the NBA Finals. Or a homerun derby for baseball. It doesn’t make sense.

My idea.

Every 2 minutes of second overtime somebody come off the field. 11 on 11. Then 10 on 10. Then 9 on 9. Not perfect by any stretch but better than penalty fucking kicks. The ultimate team sport relegated to dude v. goalie. It’s just idiotic.

Agreed. The 3 on 3 rule for overtime in the NHL was one of the best advancements in years.

Dan yep, what is wrong with these people. There needs to be tougher punishments for abuse online. If those people did that in public they would be in more trouble, so why is it any different when it happens online.

Joining in with saying that those boys on the pitch and on the bench (Hendo excluded) have done their country proud and should be lauded, not abused.

That being said, Southgate totally mismanaged that game and he’s done us on penalties twice in his career now!

This brilliant squad has made our manager look good the whole way. That Italy team was there for the taking and he bottled it!

ScottBailey that’s a fair summary… can’t blame the players, only the manager… I hope Southgate learns his lessons (that you need to score more goals than the opposition).. I fear he won’t.
