Think Southgate being scapegoated is a bit harsh if I’m honest, it literally came down to a ball hair.
If England win he’s a loveable genius, lose and it’s all his fault. The margin is too fine so it just comes across as sore losing.

LT42 Southgate was in the chair. He absolutely needed to change things at half time and earlier through the second half. Putting a 19 year old on to take the last pen is fucking awful too - the poor lad.

LT42 leaving all the talent on the bench and playing most of the match with 7 (!!!) defensive players, not only last night but regularly throughout the tournament, cost us dearly… why is it unfair to pin the blame on Southgate? He has riches at his disposal and refused to use them out of extreme caution. And what’s the logic that when you play a better team you adopt more defensive tactics? You still need to score more goals than the opposition!!

Why? Italy were the better team all tournament and on the night. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the English team’s probs go beyond the manager and the obviously talented individuals. The difference in mental strength between Italy and England was palpable.

My biggest gripe about last night is that you had Chiellini (36) and Bonucci (34) looking like they hadn’t broken sweat even after extra time. Our young, wide players (sat on the bench) should have had them blowing chunks at half time!
If that’s not an indictment of Southgate’s lack of game management, I don’t know what is. Huge opportunity lost.
