Yeah it’s beautiful up there. But the community has been completely gutted. It’s all second homes for the tech elite and AirBnB rentals now. It’s a real problem as the visitors need services but the workers can’t afford to live there. It’s also pristine wilderness so building high-rises or large apartment complexes isn’t really an option. Dunno what they’re going to do but it’s currently not working at all.

Fun fact, there’s well over 200 preserved bodies in the Lake that will never be found as it’s too cold and too deep.

-29 with a -35 windchill and this is as warm as it’s getting today. it’s been 3 weeks already, another 2 months of this and my sanity will be hanging by a thread.

14 of the last 16 days with highs below -20, with wind that’s below -30 most days. coldest stretch we’ve had since 1969 apparently. i’m about done with this shit, normally january and february are the coldest months so this is going to be a long winter.

and for a good laugh, tomorrow the high is -19 with snow and monday is plus 9. it’s been so cold that the roads are almost completely ice-covered. i’ve never seen anything like it here.

Amps we’re completely at the mercy of the ever wobbly jet stream. extended periods of extreme hot and cold seem to be our future here. although being sea side would be great for property values.

I live on the coast. House prices are ridiculous. Don’t know how the youngsters can afford to buy unless they get help from their parents.

Dubman canada is the land of unaffordable housing too. i’m in one of the few small markets and i have no idea how anyone starting out does it. vancouver, toronto, ottawa, even montreal now are all completely out of reach. my wife and i basically impulse bought our first house in 2002 and it was the best decision we’ve made. pure luck.

Smallman1 depends on where you go. i haven’t spent much time in toronto, but vancouver and montreal are both nice places. would definitely avoid montreal in the winter though. we went in february one year and that humid cold was the worst thing i’ve ever experienced. had to keep ducking into pubs to get a pint just to avoid frostbite. the rockies are a good visit, but unless you like to ski, go in the summer.
