Some fucking shockers here. Bending the rules a bit, but Orbital with Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven on Earth. I just walk away.

Seen Harvey drop Mandy Smith just can’t wait (cool & breezy mix).. Great open minded DJ.

When I first started going out around ’97, every major house dj seemed to be getting on the garage bandwagon, remember some shocking garage tracks being incongruously dropped into sets, stuff like Double 99 - RIP Groove and so on.

Can’t remember specific culprits, but they were all at it - Tong, Oakenfold, probably Sasha and Digweed at some point (Digweed was playing Doop around that time, after all).

Edit: *Really I should be clearer and have written ‘Speed Garage’, obviously it wouldn’t be unusual or particularly bad for a house dj to be dropping Kerri Chandler tracks.

Digger’s Doop moment has to get an outstanding achievement award, it’s the only one that’s got a consistent mention over the years in this thread that’s been rehashed about 40 times.

alistair …that was played at Shoom and has featured on loads of Belearic comps, not sure it fits into ‘shocker’ category

Garage, it’s where you put the junk you don’t want in your house.

LT42 Doop was 1994……Same year as Higher Ground.

LT42 …if it had just happened live it’d have been forgotten, but immortalised on the JDJ comp!

Not sure I have ever heard it… is it some remix or some sort or was he actually just playing the pop record?

Unbroken1 sure but someone took the risk and played it first. Harvey is a risk taking dj hence the plethora of examples quoted. Pity more don’t show the same open mind.

          • Dan replied to this.

Dan …dubious records that became balearic ‘classics’ is another thread altogether

Alistair will post Then Jericho in 3,2…….

That Samim Heater track with the accordions was a pearler from the mnml years. Gypo haus was thankfully short lived.

Dan a man after my own heart. Harvey > Dixon all day long.
Actually one of the few DJs my wife would come out of clubbing retirement to see
