zackster Pff thats not even Tenaglia’s best GU.

“Sexy, deep, dark house packed full of tracks that carry their guns slung low. No flashy tricks just a boom and a flash and another bassline from disco hell.”

NOT MY WORDS, THE WORDS OF DOM PHILLIPS

A lol for Dave.

And Dom Phillips!

Amps I hear ya, buddy. It was always a bit too fast and driving for my bedroom though, in a low ceiling dark room, then yes, break out the Vicks.

Give me the filthy tribal vortex all day long though in the bedroom or dark room.

A mix for when you have access to Mitsi Turbos on a regular basis, that one.

Nowadays, I’m more into drinking the old Measles, Mumps and Rubella.

bosstrabs I’m more into drinking the old Measles, Mumps and Rubella.

Are you auditioning a new rhyming slang for Stella?

It’s decent here at the moment, no Miley whatsoever, I can go out and have a load of MMRs, then pour myself into a Kevin Sheedy/Cheryl Tweedy.

This switch into Breeder - The Chain. This is the way.

        Scenario: -

You’re given Oakenfold #007 CD2 and Digweed #006 CD2. Only one can be played. Which one is going in the deck?

        #007 CD2 here.

Oakenfold doing drum and bass. Legit. The trance is good though

mono-stereo My least favourite transition on the whole mix 🤣 Literally sounds like something I’d have done in the first couple of years I was DJing…

ScottBailey its a tough one as private production sex drive is one of my favourite tunes. however I would have to go with digweed 006 cd2 due to a even stronger hatred for bbe deeper love as the final tune

Was told by someone at the time that Oakey had done such an atrocious job of mixing they got an engineer to just piece the tracks together themselves, but no idea how actually true that is.

Oakey’s mixing was atrocious, you can hear it week in week out on his year long Essential Mix world tour about a year later.

Oakey got such adulation for having a box full of all the best records before pretty much anyone else did. And dropping them in Cream at the height of the Mitsi.

zackster There is drum and bass on 007?

May depend on whether you have Monkey Side Face, Monkey Chin or Spangly Backdrop.

I think I have PTSD from having to listen to all those essential mixes. Him and Cox absolutely ruined a few weeks of my life.

A rare LOL for me old mucker, Jntaaatton YEA!H

jonattonyeah LOL Hernan needs 6 hours just to get out of first gear. The weapon.

              Quality.

Like Millsy with more ruffled, rogueish hair.

303abuser They’re both absolutely quality comps, the proper heyday of GU and dare I say it, the mix CD generally.

006 for me, but only just.

except that 007 is one of the worst mixed comps i’ve ever heard.

              I’m with 303 here

And a couple or three LOLs for Dave knockin out the Disc 1 of bantz.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take 006 CD1 over both CD’s of 007 every time. Unfortunately 006 CD2 is a mere coaster, so my original selection still stands.

BlainSA I had thought of that one. I think I prefer disc 1, just because the US release has the one deep dish mix of barbarella on it, which really puts the mix in a different place as a whole.

              • Dan replied to this.

It’s got decent tunes (except Pushin Too Hard) but I found the whole thing a bit of a dirge…Haven’t listened to for a while so may have to revisit.

However, if it wasn’t for the Chemical Bros tune, I would probably say disc 2 tips it.

                  Phil-McRackin

It’s not bad, IMO, but sounds like Prog By Numbers in retrospect. Particularly disc 1. Suppose it’s a descent snapshot of the year but certainly feels uninspired when compared to the NE and GU releases. But sure they got a nice paycheck so whatever.

BlainSA Disc 2 is superior. Better tunes; Mainline - Narcotic, Voices (Freelance Icebreaker’s Mix), Jimmy Van M – ECI-PS and Austin Leeds – Force 51.
