Disc 2s of Superior Quality
I think I have PTSD from having to listen to all those essential mixes. Him and Cox absolutely ruined a few weeks of my life.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take 006 CD1 over both CD’s of 007 every time. Unfortunately 006 CD2 is a mere coaster, so my original selection still stands.
Has anyone mentioned Communicate yet?
It’s got decent tunes (except Pushin Too Hard) but I found the whole thing a bit of a dirge…Haven’t listened to for a while so may have to revisit.
However, if it wasn’t for the Chemical Bros tune, I would probably say disc 2 tips it.
It’s not bad, IMO, but sounds like Prog By Numbers in retrospect. Particularly disc 1. Suppose it’s a descent snapshot of the year but certainly feels uninspired when compared to the NE and GU releases. But sure they got a nice paycheck so whatever.

So I’ve given both discs of 006 a full listening today, with an hour palate cleanser in between 1 and 2. Let me cut right to the chase and say that @Amps is absolutely right. Disc 2 looks down on Disc 1 from a great height. I honestly didn’t remember much about either disc, but it only took about 15 seconds of Imagine before it all came back to me. Disc one is such a disjointed mix of tunes, played in such an erratic fashion, I honestly don’t understand how anyone could think much of it. There are at least 2 transitions where John completely lets the air out of the balloon. However, I will also say that Disc 2 leaves much to be desired. The pace, mixing, and track selection are all far superior to Disc 1. This is beyond doubt. My issue is that Digweed takes things into a deep dark place, and never finds his way out again. I quickly remembered why I haven’t reached for this disc in probably 18 years. I mean, Out of It is such an unacceptable track to end a mixed cd on. If this was truly a snap shot of a 5 hour set, then fair enough, but as a stand alone mix it is very subpar.

Shapeshifter Flood is beyond poorly timed. Completely douses the fire. And the Ferry Corsten track is sooo tacked on. Doesn’t fit at all.
Can’t see Zackster coming back from this. Absolute tatters.

Gave it a go. GU06 disc 1. I can understand not liking all the tunes but the flow is pretty damn spot on, IMO. Sounds like Tenaglia without the daft vocals. Sowing the seeds for BSPF but must’ve been fun in 1998.
EDIT okay the Corsten track at the end doesn’t make much sense.
i’m listening to disc 2 of 007, anyone who says this is better than sydney has serious hearing damage. it’s just random tracks that don’t fit or flow together dropped next to each other with zero attempt to even mix them.
maybe that’ll take the heat off zack while he regains his senses.

hugopal there are a few good tracks, but that opener? fucking awful. and any mix this disjointed can’t be compared to either disc of sydney, that’s my main point. i won’t knock anyone for enjoying it, but as a mix, it’s objectively shit.
edit: an honorable mention for that burning flame track, he had to have lost a bet to include that
