I grew up on C64 / SNES / PS / XBOX and PC gaming but got rid of it all in order to basically stop my addiction, work evenings, get cooking/dishes done and, you know, live..

However, I recently installed Command and Conquer: Rivals on my iPhone and due to its 5 minute per game rate I am fully down the rabbit hole when I have brief spells of free time.

It’s one of the best games I’ve played once you get into it, it’s free and it works on iPhone / iPad / android.

I have dabbled in a few other free ones and they are so riddled with adverts it just becomes pointless.

I did like call of duty: mobile when I had an iPhone 8 Plus (3D touch for aiming was great) but the new iPhone 12 I had dropped that feature and now I can’t get on with the controls.

One issue I seem to have with mobile games is when I’m offline on a plane I can’t get into these games to even play offline. I fly a lot and they are often 4+ hour flights.

Do you guys have more online / offline recommendations?

Get yourself a used PS Vita and jailbreak it. Opens it up to a huge selection of all the old PS1 and PSP library, along with all the own Vita game library. These can be just downloaded from the net and copied over to the memory card and you’re set.

And then there’s RetroArch, which is the dogs bollox. Plays all the old console emulators from the Atari 2600, C64, Spectrum era all the way to Amiga, SNES, Mega Drive, Gameboy Advance, Mame….

It’s really all you need, and a bit cheaper than the Switch.

Have a dig around on YouTube, there’s tons of vids showing what a modded Vita can do, and RetroArch on the Vita too.

Limbo and Inside are hands down the best games in mobile. Love Super Hexagon. Motorsport Manager took an awful lot of time out of my life

Dragons Lair which was a big arcade game in the 80’s but is now on a mobile phone. It’s exactly the same as well.

Dubman Loads on the arcade as a kid. Couldn’t survive more than 20-30 secs. Used to spend hours watching the teenagers work their way though it.
