RichM I want to do a half marathon in under 2 hours this year. That’s my only goal

If you’re in reasonable shape, like you can run 5 km without walking right now, that’s easily achievable in 3 months.

303abuser I am confident I can do it, and planning 2 months training. I tried twice last year to do it but first time I didn’t run the fall distance!! But was on target for 1:55. The second attempt I didn’t realise it was a trail run so took longer as a result. I did that in 2:10.

    3rd time lucky

RichM Yeah, you’ll be fine then, probably much faster than 2 hours if you put in some work. After I’m done a ton of endurance training this year, I may try for a fast 10k/half next year. I feel like I’ve got a 1:30-1:35 half in me, but I think the age clock is ticking on that one.

Hursty Sticking to badminton (twice a week) and tt (three times a week) for another year, still a bit intimidated to take on tennis, also my ego won’t allow for it with all the weight I’m currently carrying.

Probably entering a baddie tournie for doubles (with my landlord’s son who weighs 120kgs but still destroys me because he has an insane backhand smash) in a month or so. Coach encouraging after a year of classes with his, “Don’t worry sir, these will all be beginners.” lol.

TT coach thinks I can play Under 45 city-level tournies in about 6 months. Going to watch a state-level tournament next week.

Love Badminton, used to play as a kid until Uni. The backhand smash was the one shot I could never master, to be fair any backhand shots are my achilles, all in the wrist as they say.

As for TT, thats another top game, is it popular out there then, lots of leagues etc?

Hursty Difficult shot for sure, barely any control and you’re also facing the opposite direction when you make contact. Ideally you should be running around it for the forehand, but when you’re desperate gotta play it. Mine just pops up and sets the opponent up for an easy smash.

Yup, both TT and badminton, extremely popular professionally and for hobbies. There’s so much demand, raquets and gear for both sports are actually priced better in India, than Japan where it’s all getting made (Butterfly and Yonex). Having said that, it’s still not ingrained in schools which is predominantly football, cricket, basketball.

Travel costs to suzza would be totes OTT during the cossy livs?

          a month later

Hursty Quality. She’s probably about to do a winter running gear video when it’s above freezing and there’s no snow. That shit infuriates me. 😂

          The Jesus comment was good!

Christ imagine ‘following’ her on social media. Your life that bloody vacant that you need to be ‘influenced’ by these twats

          11 days later

26 week training block started saturday. Did 8km threshold on saturday, followed by 16 km on sunday. My aerobic fitness is in a pretty good place, but bloody hell did I forget what hard running feels like. 😅

303abuser Good luck mate, keep at it. Yeah you’ve got to be up for a running sesh, especially if the weather is crap.

Did a 50k the other weekend, managed to get round in 4h30, about 20 mins slower than last year but I haven’t done many long runs this year, still not a bad pace. 11k off road race yesterday, balls out, they hurt way way more!

Hursty Thanks, I’m actually looking forward to the structure and pushing myself again. I’ve just finished 12 weeks of upper zone 2 base work, so threshold feels very different. Did both sessions on trails with fresh snow at -10/-15 degrees. The weather has been horrific this month, hoping it warms up soon.

That’s a good 50k time, especially under-trained. I’m hoping for 6 hours in September, that’s with about 1100 meters of ascent. I’ve got a 5 hour stretch goal in the back of my head, but I’m not going to worry about that until I get into July or so.

I’ve got a similar length (13 km I think) trail race in early may, hence putting some speed work back in now. Those distances are a lot of fun, but yeah, they hurt.
