26 week training block started saturday. Did 8km threshold on saturday, followed by 16 km on sunday. My aerobic fitness is in a pretty good place, but bloody hell did I forget what hard running feels like.
Sports you play as an adult
303abuser Good luck mate, keep at it. Yeah youāve got to be up for a running sesh, especially if the weather is crap.
Did a 50k the other weekend, managed to get round in 4h30, about 20 mins slower than last year but I havenāt done many long runs this year, still not a bad pace. 11k off road race yesterday, balls out, they hurt way way more!
Hursty Thanks, Iām actually looking forward to the structure and pushing myself again. Iāve just finished 12 weeks of upper zone 2 base work, so threshold feels very different. Did both sessions on trails with fresh snow at -10/-15 degrees. The weather has been horrific this month, hoping it warms up soon.
Thatās a good 50k time, especially under-trained. Iām hoping for 6 hours in September, thatās with about 1100 meters of ascent. Iāve got a 5 hour stretch goal in the back of my head, but Iām not going to worry about that until I get into July or so.
Iāve got a similar length (13 km I think) trail race in early may, hence putting some speed work back in now. Those distances are a lot of fun, but yeah, they hurt.
303abuser Similar climb to the one I did, over that distance its quite spread out. 6 hours is a good time as well, perfect ultra pace if you fancy going longer.
Time on feet is so key, speed/distance not so much, building muscle memory for the strains of long periods outside without rest. Sounds like you have a solid plan, building up slowly and adding intensity and volume as you go
Hursty Iām following the higdon 50k plan. The volume should be manageable, building up to 80k/week, long runs of 42k/5 hours. The challenge and the reason I chose this plan is the saturday threshold, sunday tired long run each week. Thatās new for me and Iām really glad I did the base training to prepare. Throw in an active job walking another 15-20k/week and time on feet should be good.
I donāt run on the weekends on the basis Iām absolutely smashing it in nightclubs.
Cheers!

alistair that was me
Alistair asking the big questions having spent his Saturday night eating a Chinese take-away and watching Strictly.
You couldnāt make it up.
Lozza G was doing a 4-9pm set yesterday in a pub in Kings Heath near me but couldnāt go alas, much more civilised time though.
Just found out the company will reimburse $1000 worth of baddy and TT classes in financial year 2022-2023. Nice touch.
Running back to back threshold/long runs every weekend can suck my dick. Nothing to add, just a short, very tired rant.
My favourite sport I play as an adult is āabsolutely destroying Smallmanās life and reputationā.
bosstrabs That appears to be more of a pastime, Dave
bosstrabs shame it never made it to the Olympics.
What reputation?
