I’m embarking on a 100 mile ultra this saturday, the whole of the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne, all in the name of fun and enjoyment!

All the best Hursty. Sounds brutal, but boy I can’t wait to hit up South Downs whenever I visit my old school again. Pure beauty.

I’ve recently found out the benefits of replacing boxer shorts with briefs for badminton and especially table tennis, where you’re pretty much permanently in squat position because you have to stay low.

Also, 100% polyester t-shirts versus 100% cotton has be an revelation, given I sweat like Prince Andrew noncing when I play sports.

      Hursty Good luck!
Have you thought about golf? That’s a bit more relaxing exercise 😉

Good look sir. I take it you’re doing on a bike. My mate done it a few years ago for charity. I may see see you as I goes through chanctonbury ring.

Know St. Bedes well, mainly because we used to smash you at cricket!

Dubman Running, well attempting to run it all…aiming for 18 hours as I have a hotel booked in Eastbourne with the Mrs and I’d like to make use of it!

Hursty Sweet Jesus, good for you. That distance is no joke. I’m staring down the idea of a 50 km ultra in 15 months and that seems like a massive challenge, 160 km is an massive undertaking.

            Are you doing it supported?

303abuser Nice one! hope you enjoy it. I’ve roped the Mrs in to crew for me, there are checkpoints also. The main thing for me is staying hydrated, its going to be 20 celcius so I will be sweating buckets, other than that keep fueling and moving.

Hursty That’s helpful, I’m prepping my wife for the possibility of doing that lol. 20 will be warm for sure, I’m always feeling like I’m low on sodium. Getting the hydration and nutrition balance right seems like a black art to me. I’ve been doing everything up to 22 km fasted so far, but that might be close to the edge of that strategy, so I’ve been spending some time trying to figure it out.

You should GoPro a live stream so we can watch you suffer. 😅

Hursty Nice, what number are you? Can I ask what training plan you followed too? The 50 km race I’m considering looks like a lot of climbing, so I’m thinking of a 16 week marathon plan, just on hills instead of flat ground, but I’m not sure if that’s the best strategy.

303abuser I used an app called TrainAsOne which is an AI powered training schedule, i’ve found it to be great, you can also use it for free, however its only £6 a month for the pro version.

Basically you enter your race goals and it generates a plan for you, if you miss a session or do something else on day it automatically recalculates which means its very flexible over a set plan.

The fitness tests are straightforward as well, 3.2km flat out, 6 min flat out and perceived effort runs.

                    354.
