FUCKING GET IN!
Canada beat Mexico last night at the Iceteca 2-1 in -15 Celsius weather in World Cup Qualifying. I’m beyond chuffed. We’ve been shit for so long and now we’re not shit. We’re the only team that are unbeaten in the final 8 teams of CONCACAFs World Cup Qualifying round. Mexico and the US have both lost. Canada were easily the better side for 86 minutes, before fatigue started setting in and Mexico finally woke up. In the past year our record against Mexico is 1-1-1. We’ve drawn with them at home at Estadio Azteca, nearly beat them in the Gold Cup (they scored a 92 minute heartbreaker) and now this!
We’ve only qualified once in 1986. The last time we beat Mexico was on February 20, 2000. Before that it was in 1990. We’ve played them a total of 38 times since 1957. We’ve won 4, drawn 10 and lost 24. This is huge for the game here and our side seems to only be getting better!
Highlights and commentary from last night:
An absolutely INSANE goal from Alphonso Davies in the previous qualifying game (I was there with my little fella):
