Unparalleled creativity, flair, footwork, shotmaking variety and ability to excite and inspire. By those measures, Federer was the best and and quite simply an artist with a racquet. His single handed backhand whether slice or top spin was simply glorious and his serve was effortlessly smooth and potent. There you go
I saw him in the flesh (3rd round) the year he first won Wimbledon (2003) This was a masterclass by him….game changing moment in the men’s game.

Have you been watching me dance?
A good, if slightly over the top read -
I’d say that Federer played with the greatest flare ever and was the best technically…..great footwork and serious racquet head speed for accuracy. The greatest in my eyes is Nadal, not because he leads the pack with 22 GS, but i personally feel the French Open is the toughest slam to win and Nadal has archived that 14 times. Just my two pence.

Dan Interesting that both of us have overlooked ND when his head to head record against both of them is better, not to mention the fact he has more miles left in the tank and was number one for a record seven years. My eldest who is county standard thinks he is the best. All so subjective

alistair Two French Open titles. Your son is probably right. He’s an amazing athlete with laster like accuracy. I saw him get smashed by Safin one year at Wimbledon and never thought he’d reach those dizzy heights he has achieved. Let’s face it if there was no Covid and he hadn’t wacked the line judge he’d be well in front in GS stakes.
