I bumped into Jeremy Bates once at Oxshott train station.

Tru fax and a KLANG.

vinnyt77 sport is all about opinions, not sitting on the fence. I have seen and played enough tennis to be confident enough in mine.

SM001 Just to clarify incase theres any confusion between Rog and myself.

He said Rog, not Reg mate

At least he can focus on his acting career as Ray Donovan’s daughter now

Unparalleled creativity, flair, footwork, shotmaking variety and ability to excite and inspire. By those measures, Federer was the best and and quite simply an artist with a racquet. His single handed backhand whether slice or top spin was simply glorious and his serve was effortlessly smooth and potent. There you go

I saw him in the flesh (3rd round) the year he first won Wimbledon (2003) This was a masterclass by him….game changing moment in the men’s game.

alistair Unparalleled creativity, flair, footwork, shotmaking variety and ability to excite and inspire.

Have you been watching me dance?

Dan I never thought I would see a more complete player than Sampras and then Fed arrived straight after and won his first slam the year after Pete won his last. Alcaraz is interesting as he seems to be a cross between Rog and Rafa.

I’d say that Federer played with the greatest flare ever and was the best technically…..great footwork and serious racquet head speed for accuracy. The greatest in my eyes is Nadal, not because he leads the pack with 22 GS, but i personally feel the French Open is the toughest slam to win and Nadal has archived that 14 times. Just my two pence.

Dan Interesting that both of us have overlooked ND when his head to head record against both of them is better, not to mention the fact he has more miles left in the tank and was number one for a record seven years. My eldest who is county standard thinks he is the best. All so subjective

alistair Two French Open titles. Your son is probably right. He’s an amazing athlete with laster like accuracy. I saw him get smashed by Safin one year at Wimbledon and never thought he’d reach those dizzy heights he has achieved. Let’s face it if there was no Covid and he hadn’t wacked the line judge he’d be well in front in GS stakes.

Dan personally, I doubt Alcaraz would have won the US had he been there.

                  • Dan replied to this.

alistair He’d already beaten Djokovic earlier in the year.

                      alistair

ND is doubtless an astonishing athlete, and a hell of a tennis player, but IMO he’s also:

                      a) not that fun to watch, and
                      2) a cunt

alistair Oh, for sure - has achieved so much, and you get the sense that he’s almost out performed his natural talent. I’d watch a Federer game ahead of Djokovic any day of the week though - more naturally gifted IMO, and his playing style is just a ton better to watch.

Djokovic is the Ivan Drago of modern tennis.

                        5 days later

                        Watching Laver cup @Dan ?
Set up nicely for Djok and Tiafoe tonight. Should be a cracker

vinnyt77 Simliar vibes to Schumacher during his pomp. A winner but not necessarily any good for his sport.

mono-stereo Correct. Schumacher was/is an awful human being, but also the best racer I’ve ever seen.

One cannot argue that Federer is a better player than Novak when he has been so utterly dominated by him in Grand Slam finals but he will never be as fun or joyful to watch.

                          Not really mate.
                          I’ve not got Eurosport.

Dan ND hasn’t played competitively since Wimbledon final and is completely dismantling Tiafoe. Extraordinary

                            • Dan replied to this.

alistair He hadn’t played much tennis coming into Wimbledon.

                              a month later

Some top players still left but is it all set for an Djokovic v Alcaraz final in Paris? Another good masters @Dan

                              • Dan replied to this.

alistair Yes mate. I was going to the French Open next year, but i quite fancy going the Paris Masters instead. Neither of them have played a great deal….should be a cracker.

Dan I suspect Rune and Augier Aliassime might upset the applecart

Dan NK proving that he is still the world’s best player. Rune is some talent

                                  2 months later

Looks like Nadal Draper is going the distance. Intriguing start to the first major.

                                  • Dan replied to this.

Going for Rune for the Men’s AO title.

Women’s title …I’m going for Ons Jabeur (who’s basically a man)
