I am a liberal democrat (in the classic definition of the term) and yet still believe that we all might have been better if we had not encouraged expansion of NATO right up to Russia’s borders.
Apparently, though, I am a tankie for recognising that it might not be the best idea to create hostile (rather than neutral) countries and park weapons in them right on a major power’s doorstep.
The Cuban Missile Crisis and the Korean War gave us something of a guide to the folly of doing this and expected reaction.
