Along_the_Wire definitely use the line faders instead of the cross fader, even using the gain knobs will be smoother than a cross fader.
here’s a really simple eq technique to get started (i’ll describe it with clock positions, assuming that 12 is what you’re aiming for at peak volume, which will vary with the loudness of each track) … with the incoming track beat matched and phrased, leave the highs at 12, turn the mids down to 9/10, and drop the low out completely. at the start of the phrase, bring the new track line up about 3/4ths of the way (obviously will depend on the line curve), slowly swap the mids over time, and either do the same with the lows or, with the right tracks and likely a key change, do a hard swap for a little energy. once you can do that smoothly, then work on variation and creativity.
