It’s complicated (as much as fast food can be complicated). They’ve built up this reputation that’s impossible to live up to. But it’s a fantatic burger for the price ($4 for a double double). People visit California and try to compare it to Five Guys, Shake Shack, et cetera, but those burgers are twice the price and pretty much ripped off InO’s model of good fast food (rather than McD’s or Burger King). You go there to get your mind blown, well that’s your problem.
The other thing is that people miss the nostalgia piece. In N Out was a treat you’d eat as a kid after a baseball game or heading out on a road trip or hanging out in a parking lot when you were 14. It’s part of our youth. It’s not just about the food. That said, again, excellent burger. Is it an essential visit? Meh. But if you’re driving down the freeway and looking for food, that’s a damn good stop.
Wrote way too much there.
