Our homeless problem is ridiculous. It’s too expensive here, we’re limited with space, drugs are incredibly strong and cheap, and you can survive a winter without any issue. We get one person off the street, two more show up. Having run a safety net clinic, I can tell you mental illness and severe substance use are issues, but many are just flat out lazy and stupid. They have given up and feel entitled to do whatever it is they want. They don’t want to work. They don’t want rules. They just want to live in a tent, shit on the side of the road, and be utterly useless and pointless. It’s embarrassing. Have some fucking pride.
