I’m surprised Cher’s pioneering vocoder vox never took over the world if I’m honest

Rapper: “Yo fam I’ve got da rhymes but my voice sounds like a car with a hole in the exhaust.”

Producer: “I’ve got just the thing and the kids love it. Let me strip you of your individuality and make you a STAR.”

LT42 No he doesn’t, they all sound the same, they all use the same style and cadence. Its rubbish

    Yes he definitely does.

No autotune on this for instance:

hugopal I’m not talking about the quality of his vocal chords but well done on completely missing the point.

Your comment which I was responding to stated:

“That contemporary “rap” or “hip hop” that you hear nowadays with the use of autotune is absolutely fucking shit. Nobody has a good voice in this genre anymore.”

He has a good voice and doesn’t rely on autotune.

So what are you withering on about?!

        • LT42 replied to this.

hugopal yeah that video of The Weeknd you posted really reminds me of Easy-E. You stupid fucking bastard.

LT42 No shit?! Your comment followed the thread bump by Rhouses of a track by Future ft The Weeknd.

Your “point” basically seems to have been “I only want to listen to someone who sounds like Easy-E, waah waah waaah. I don’t like it if someone posts music that doesn’t sound like Easy-E! If they don’t sound like Easy-E then they must have a crap voice and use autotune. Except if they actually do have a good voice and don’t use autotune - but it still can’t be good because it’s not like Easy-E”.

If you want to listen to Easy-E then just listen to Easy-E you Alzheimers-ridden goof.

Like this track or not, but there’s plenty of Rap being knocked out today. Just very localized. I can tell you that when our DJ dude plays this on a packed night everyone goes bananas. Part of it being that people like seeing a local Oakland kid making a name for themselves and getting out of the ’hood. There’s pride in it, I guess.

Here’s what I gleaned from that.

              Bitch
              Nigger
              Whore
              Mother fucker

Oh and the obligatory gun references. Boring. Done to death.

                Cankles-McJeggings

That’s because you’re old. Like me. Not for you to “get.” But as expected from Jaded Clubbers. It is in the name, after all. A constant whine fest about anything and everything. Boring is right.

                  jonattonyeah

Age doesn’t come into it, I didn’t have a problem with NWA back in the day. At least theirs was making a statement. This is just mindless bile and the overuse of nigger whore and bitch is repugnant. The guy must be a polluted brain dead moron, it all makes me feel a bit sick.
Plus the actual music behind it is simplistic at best.

Dave just DM’d with “mate you need to share some machine gun Kelly in that thread”.

                  🙄

I actually avoided pretty much all the new rappers from 2010 onwards. The combination of autotune, the face tattoos, and the mumbling did nothing for me.

I’ve only started giving the new breed a go, and I’m quite impressed if I’m being honest. Can’t really listen to their stuff on a laptop on YouTube, need to have a proper sub woofer doing all the work for the bass. YG, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Future, some of the Run The Jewels stuff.

Happy to back Hugo here too, The Weeknd is talented. Production is tight, and he’s got a solid voice. Maybe a tad bit cheesy but I’m ok with it.

Anyways here’s some balance for the old school - banger as always:

Also not having to pay 20 bucks for a cd and being able to stream through all the shite helps opening up horizons.

LT42 I didnt read any of that, Hugo, as I didn’t bring my waders.

                  Lol!

jonattonyeah Like this track or not, but there’s plenty of Rap being knocked out today. Just very localized.

Thats exactly why I mentioned the accessible chart nonsense in my original post, J. I’m sure there’s a ton of good “unknown” rappers out there, just not the examples you or Hugo posted.

Forgot to mention Anderson Paak’s Malibu album. BANGER.

New Danger Mouse + Black Thought album is solid. Favourite tune on it so far.

RichM yeaaah that comes next, great tune. No filler album.

I don’t like the radio station JJJ here but sometimes you just can’t avoid it. It’s like radio one but much much worse . They’ve been playing lots of that Mickeymouse stuff.

Enjoying that Danger Mouse and Black Thought album Rhouses, very good.

                      15 days later

I didn’t know at first where the vocal was taken from in this, but after looking it up I’d have thought @rhouses and @bosstrabs would be all over this. It even has a proper old-school prog-trance bassline and everything:

hugopal Turned this garbage off 15 seconds in. There needs to be a quality control filter embedded in this thread. Basically anything Hugo (or Zackster) post, it must auto delete.

Back to the new Pusha T album and this is banging. Kanye digging his own beats a bit too much, but still…

Also, checked out Joey Badass after loving his verse on the Danger Mouse album… 1999 is brilliant.

SM001 Gave up on that show before he arrived, been meaning to give it another go.

rhouses I loved it but I know many who didn’t. But worth another go definitely.

                            7 days later

15 seconds, that’s all I gave that filth ali-star. Ban request even.

This is right up @bosstrabs’ strasse.

                            a month later

Deep dived MF Doom’s discog over the last couple of weeks, this is what I’m loving so far (still a lot of stuff to listen to), can confirm these albums are banging:

                            1. Madvillainy (obv)
                            2. MM..Food
                            3. Metal Fingers Presents: Special Herbs Vol 3 & 4
                            4. Operation: Doomsday
                            5. Metal Fingers Presents: Special Herbs Vol 5 & 6
                            6. Key to the Kuffs

YouTube keeps pushing this on me too, great tune tbf:

Realized he’s not really a rapper with BIG singles, need to treat his discog as you would concept albums, hit play and let it do its thing.

I genuinely imagine you have this on repeat all day. Not even sure why!!

Though maybe the clean version now you have jnr listening too?

rhouses The greatest rapper imo. I could listen to him all day.

SM001 last time I heard Rhouses freestyle rap he just whispered ‘kabbaddi’ to me over the phone 324 times before taking a massive breath and hanging up. It was shit.
