  • Most harrowing museum/ place you've visited as a tourist

This post was inspired by the look on our Prime Ministers face while visiting Irpin in Ukraine (obviously not as a tourist).

I’ve not travelled enough to have been in any really sad place, but I do want to go to Auschwitz one day, nevermind that it will probably fuck me up. Anybody been to Cambodia?

Living in Finland you’ll probably find Auschwitz a breeze, Hannu

      Old-Dutch well it’ll be warmer.

How did I not foresee this thread turning into a joke fest.

Probably the American War Remnants Museum in Saigon. There’s a very graphic photo / video exhibit detailing the use of and impact of Agent Orange, napalm and phosphorus by the US during the war…

Holocaust galleries at the Imperial War Museum in London never fails to shock.

        Other than that, Tooting.

        Homegrove Anybody been to Cambodia?

Yup, pretty harrowing and the fact that I can remember it being on the news made it all the more poignant

strummer I found S-21 to be a grim place.

The red brick prison cells to the right were the most shocking thing to me.

I’d recommend going to see Gallipoli and the war memorial if you’re ever in this part of the world. There’s no real way to explain the insanity of what happened there. Truly frightening. Most lads were teenagers fighting there too. Hard to imagine what they went through. The area itself is absolutely beautiful.

One year at Sonar they had a holocaust exhibition as part of day Sonar. That was harrowing based on the topic and the fact we were fucked. Not sure why we went in, but an hour later came out and needed a lay down

National civil rights museum in Memphis: mostly because I was so unaware of so much of the history of the bus rides and Selma.

Robben island: this is living memory for me. To visit was special

First time I ever went to war graves in Normandy. Astonished at number of unknown soldier graves
