Old-Dutch My father who is the most agnostic mofo that I know, is all up in my face about going against my word now that I’ve had the pretty wedding in church. He’s properly sentimental about the Catholicism because of my late mom. Thankfully out here, the good schools are international and secular, driven by the IB program, and not run by people who do not believe in basic facts and science.
whatever Man, this is exactly what I went through and currently going through. Thanks for the advice here, it really does help. Much appreciated.
NasserAlazzawi My experience with religious people of my age is the complete opposite. Constantly looking for short cuts, hand outs, and overall are pretty backward when it comes to their values. Most of these monotheistic religions are driven by determinism and not freewill, and that is the biggest issue when it comes to being a good person through religion. You’re not good for the sake of being good, you’re being good with the intention of going to heaven in an after life. Went to an “International” school run by protestant missionaries for high school, and the corruption levels were up there with indian politics. Also I don’t mean to be racist, especially given India’s current track record with Muslims (some of whom are my closest friends), but we live right next to a mosque… and the amount noise coming out of there, is selfish af.
My wife, who was seeing me get visibly agitated, when her mother called up to discuss the baptism, put it to her nicely, “I doubt God will have an issue with her if she doesn’t get sprinkled with some water. And anyway, I’m more concerned about her being a good person by the way, we, her parents, bring her up, not some random old man in a church.”
Ugh. The first reply was for dutchy, the second for whatever, and the third was for Nas.
