ERIK BRUCE once upon a time was a serious raver / clubber. Still to this day a serious music lover and hunter for great music. He took up dj’ing in the 90’s and has played at a number of clubs and festivals along the South Coast.
I’ve known Erik for quite a few years now. DJ’s Tim Cook AKA Sousk + Tommy Mundell (Previous guests on this show) and I headed over to the IOW where Erik lives and put on a night for us around 2011 if i am correct. I don’t remember the night that well but I do remember the afterparty and the trip home the next day very hungover. Thinking why did i travel from Portsmouth to the IOW when I could have travelled from Southampton where I live.
Erik has been a busy man over the last few years doing regular live streams from his home where he plays music from ambient through to techno. Taking in everything from deep house to techno, progressive trance to spaced out breaks. Erik’s sets are a melting pot of lush soundscapes and haunting melodies sitting side by side with techno beats and energy infused basslines. You can find them on Mixcloud. Also his recent release called SENSOR on Lee Sofley’s (Blue Amazon) label AFFILIATE released on Bandcamp (Links Below). His cool proggy techy vibe has created quite a stir amongst the dj world. I’ve played it in a few of my sets and love it. He has been on my live stream guest list from the start as I knew he would deliver the goods as i know what he likes and how he plays. He certainly did that. We have a special treat Show 6 this Friday. We also had our friends join him from the IOW Tim Ashwell, Debbie and Chris. Once they decided they could make it, my besties Tim + Kim were up for joining us. So suddenly we had not just a Live stream to record but a little gathering of party people round ours. This was the first live stream where we had friends + family round, a BBQ to kick off the afternoon then started recording around 7pm.
This show was prerecorded the weekend before. I have found this to be much more enjoyable as we are not distracted by social media chatting trying to share links and make sure everything is working ok saying hello to people at the same time as trying to mix is just too much all at once. Also we can be more sociable on the night and not have a strict start time. It’s quite stressful going Live so this makes recording the show more fun. Also that way when we do go LIVE I can sit back and relax and make sure the multicasting is all streaming as it should be and I can then have chats with the people who are tuning in as we go LIVE.Thanks for listening..
