I just wondered as we were back a few weeks back and my Mrs’ dads car didnt and it’s relatively new. A Nissan qashqai and not a bottom of the range one either. It’s maybe 4 years old and didnt have it. We nearly died in it even in 28 degrees.
Was just thinking about getting caught in a traffic jam with it being 35+. You wouldn’t last long in that.

Enjoying the air con I had fitted at home 3 years ago. Just been out for 40km bike ride. The booze from saturday night was the limiting factor rather than the heat. I suspect the bigger problems will be overnight temps and people not being able to sleep

Did you have it in every room like ducted or individual? Just wondering how much that would cost there, it’s relatively cheap here obviously based on demand.

Just the bedroom. was about 2.2k to get it installed and have the fan unit out on the flat roof. No point in getting in anywhere else as we have a big open plan extension with bifold doors. The other thing we’ve done is get a blind across the skylight lantern which has cooled the house down massively.

Can also use it as a heater for just the bedroom as well in the winter.

Its mainly for nights when the bedroom gets super hot. Mind you I get ejected most nights for snoring and have to sleep downstairs

I’m out of touch slightly. What I just quoted was wildley out of touch. We had ours done 8 years ago and things have changed.

So here for a bedroom heat and cool would be around 800$ for the unit and I reckon about 250 to have fitted. So around 1000$ job done. £500 quid ish. Quarter of the price.

benson did you need planning permission to stick it on the roof? How loud is it? I’m well up for getting one but worried nextdoor might hear the outdoor unit.

Hovering around 30 here the last couple of weeks, it’ll climb close to 40 with humidity by the end of the month/start of August.

I open the windows in the salon and the door to the back balcony and get a cool breeze sucking through the whole apartment. No need for AC.

Haha yeh push that hot air round the room. I’d be investing in a portable Aircon if I was in the UK I reckon. Especially for the bedroom.

£2.2k is about right. We got a slightly posher wall unit and it took a couple of days to install and get the pipes through the loft. Fucking worth it as well.

Wow that really is a lot of money for one Aircon though. I suppose it’s set up for it here though , it’s a massive industry. They can fit an Aircon easily in one morning no matter where it is! They did 5 in two days on ours.

We’ve got an air pump downstairs for warming it in the winter, but it also does the job of cooling it the one week when it gets super hot in here. If only you could change physics so that cool air would also travel up then we wouldn’t have to sleep on the couch when it gets too hot for us to sleep in our bedroom upstairs. Which thankfully so far has only been few nights a year.

mono-stereo Just got a heat exchange unit on the roof. Its very quiet. It does resonate through the flat roof so there is a bit of a hum (like a distant harley davidson) in the spare room, which has the flat roof. No planning permission needed. gets problematic if you have multiple units.

Chose to put it on the flat roof as it was a bit easier than on the ground round the back. You can’t see it from the road. I love it. Currently got it on full blast and bedroom door open and it is cooling the rest of the house (albeit slowly). My smart electricity meter tells me it is costing me 10pence per hour.
