The club scene in London isn’t particularly great at the moment.
Tonnes going on don’t get me wrong but no way near as strong as it was.

Quadrant park is comfortably if not the worst club I’ve ever been to. Absolute cesspit full of horrible horrible violent cunts robbing punters of everything.
Went to see Dave Ralph and John Kelly there on the back of their Shelley’s gigs. Massive mistake. People getting relieved of everything from their clothes to their drugs and money. We left after about 2hrs. That’s why it will never be revered as legendary in anywhere else but Liverpool.
Was outside Turnmills yesterday.
Which was nice.

Never made it that far up North. I did goto a good rave at the Aston villa center in Birmingham & one in Nottingham.
The scene did definitely turn for the worst in the early 90’s when a lot of gangs got into parties. I can remember we were at rave at the Slough center and my mate got surrounded by group of black guys who tried nicking his trainers. He was so out it. His girlfriend clocked what was going on and stepped in to save him.
It got real nasty at the hac between rival Manchester gangs but to be fair you didn’t see any of the violence on the inside of the club.
In all my time going to clubs I’ve only ever seen two lots of proper out of control violence. One was at a club called high society in Chester late 80s and the other quadrant park early 90s. Both at the hands of scousers and both fucking mentally brutal. Manchester I never saw a single thing although I did hear a gun go off in a club called konspiracy also late 80s. No one was hurt as it was shot into the ceiling. At the time we were all on trips so luckily it was not reported til we were leaving hours later.
Always wondered more about the state of london and what’s new / up and coming.
I can’t imagine everyone can know everything there is to know about the next ‘new’ club or even scene. And I wonder if we would even go there, as the younger culture is totally different to what we have seen.
We sometimes just don’t act / dress / give a shit about the things they do and that’s enough to separate us.
Along with the fact they are totally obsessed with selfies.
Went to High Society a few times as mate was a DJ there…didn’t see anything nasty although did my first trip there and could only see goblins and elves. Nastiest incident I saw was in the Hacienda. It had already closed once and was towards the end of its life due to problems anyway. Watched it unfold from the balcony above, bottles, glasses..not pleasant and we made a sharp exit. Danced next to Barney from New Order so not all bad.
Yeh I only went back once after it reopened to a Sasha night and I think that might have been the last ever night actually. It was proper moody and on top. Not a nice atmosphere at all.
Enjoyed Studio 338 the other week. Good summer venue
I went to Caesars in Streatham once because a uni friend knew someone who was DJing there. Proper moody, grim sticky floor, ladies free entry, couple of nutters stood outside the toilets for a while not letting anyone in whilst some deals / negotiations / violence took place inside….. shite music, awful clientele. Think it was an rnb and garage night. Lovely memories!
Cankles-McJeggings wtf, people getting their clothes robbed in a club?? Sounds grim
What are the clubs like in Oz?
Not sure if Derm will be able to answer that.
Yep bubble jackets and trainers were being taken from lads and girls. Never seen anything like it before or after.
Cankles-McJeggings I imagine Sean felt safe as houses in most clubbing environments unless it was a glam rock night.
Boring. Couple of little ones in melbs that are good and family in briz was. Haven’t been in yonks. Sydney leaves me cold. Metro theatre probably the best but has to be chockers. I come from a different era obvs and they just don’t cut it compared to what I grew up with. Spoiled back then see. My haunts were the hac, Lazerdome, venue 44, the bomb in Notts ( best club ever), the garage in Notts, Venus in Notts, Angels in Burnley (part of an underground carpark), The corn exchange in Leeds, The academy in Stoke, Home in Manchester, The Que club in brum. Fabric, The Arches kings cross, The Arches in Sheffield, The leadmill Sheffield, Bakers in Brum, Paloma’s in Wolverhampton. If you’ve grown up with that kind of quality it’s hard to get excited about anything in Australia.
Cankles-McJeggings some legendary clubs there. I went to the University of Leeds for three years so I can say from first hand experience just how good the clubbing was there from 93-96. I cut my teeth at Ronson, Basics and Hard times
alistair Had a couple of mates at Leeds 92-96 and they all loved Basics
Both my brother’s lived there in the halcyon years and obvs I’m a Leeds fan so was there a lot of weekends. Did lots of UYR at the corn exchange for the Soak nights in 93. Didnt like Hard times or Basics too housey and handbag. To be honest the pilgrimage to Leeds was only for Sasha and digweed. But some of the guests with them were immense.
Did you go to Sasha 12 nights of summer residency at UYR in 95? At the something rooms?? Can’t remember but it was in a shopping mall and the hottest club known to man. We went to about 7 or 8 of them. Some of the most fucked in a club nights I’ve ever been. The supply of drugs was absolutely mental. Must have been a pre requisite!
Pleasure rooms the place was called.
