There is a perception that, because some Chinese are exceptionally rich, there are now many rich Chinese. That’s not the case at all. When you say “all over”, you are only likely to see this sort of stuff on a lot of people in Sanlitun or Xidan in Beijing, or around Nanjing Road or the French Concession in Shanghai, where the rich concentrate.
You’re talking about 1% of the population, if that. In fact, with a median national income of something like $10,000 a year, the people who can genuinely afford that stuff are probably a fraction of 1%.
Skilled foreign workers such as engineers are still probably in the 1% in terms of income in China.
