Along_the_Wire I guess the idea is to get 200 done to set a precedent and then start cranking the numbers up. The home office has also said that sending them there cost more than keeping them here, but, again, the idea presumably is to end the belief that if you can make it to the UK you’re untouchable and eventually the flow will start to decrease.
I think in theory it’s not a terrible plan but it will be scuppered by too many competing vested interests: the lawyers who make a good living off the current system and the political opposition both within and outwith the Tory party.
