One of the reasons conspiracies are appealing and spread rapidly is that the tendency is to think if ‘x’ big event happens, there must be an equally big reason behind it. When in reality, there are often a multitude of factors that triggered it or something small and, at the time, insignificant. Since that doesn’t seem to add up, the conspiracy fills the space. Yet history is littered with example after example of how incompetency, human error, greed/corruption and short term thinking is usually at the root of it.
