zackster Can we get a temporary character limit before Jay copies and pastes the epic he is undoubtedly knocking out in Word about what Canada’s only goal means to him personally?
It’s a big moment for the sport in this country. It’s the first goal scored in a World Cup after not having scored whatsoever 36 years ago in 1986. That’s the story line our sports broadcaster was running with at least. 8.9 million Canadians (AKA 25%) watched the Belgium vs. Canada match. It was the second largest most-watched sports event behind the Super Bowl. That’s a pretty impressive number when you consider that the women used to out-draw the CMNT in attendance and also viewing numbers.
Considering where we were and where we are now as a footballing nation, I think we’ve come a long way and there’s room to be proud but also to improve upon even more. I’m excited for when we co-host in 2026!
We looked the part for a good twenty minutes, but Croatia were clearly the better and more experienced side. Croatia laid waste to our high press. I still remain hopeful that we can beat Morocco and would love to see us score again and at least get three points out of a match - even if it’s meaningless as far as the tournament is concerned. Personally I feel the only way to go is up from here.
Also, before you get too big for your britches Zackster, don’t forget the Canada beat and drew both the US and Mexico in qualifying for this whole thing. 🙂
At least we won the Davis Cup today, so there’s some consolation.
