vinnyt77 Ko Samui is really built up now - if you haven’t booked it already, I’d go to Ko Phangan - brilliant island.

Unbroken1 two weeks there in 2019. Amazing holiday - you doing it on your own, or got tours organised? I’ll see if I can dig out the itinerary we had. Food is fantastic as well

Went all over apart from the then Tamil territory in the far north. The elephant sanctuary, Rock of Sigiriya and train up to Nuwara Eliya from Kandy and stay in the Grand hotel is a must, especially if you want to feel like youre back in the good ol’ colonial glory days ordering servants around and making sure your freshly picked and brewed tea is at extactly 93 degrees . Also Kandy was interesting. Be prepared for absolutely horrific poverty and begging and even worse driving and road conditions. Truly terrifying. The food however is farking amazing. Also went to Horton plains national park to find leopards but failed miserably.

Forgot my KLANG of having breakfast and dinner with Tony Gregg for 3 days, who actually befriended me and the Mrs because he was there commentating on Sri Lanka and India and was over the local people from what we could tell. He even came and asked if we minded if he could join us some days. We didn’t even realise it was him for a while.

Also we had a private driver nearly the whole time we were there. He drove up to Nuwara Eliya the day after we got there on the train to drive us back another way. It was buttons and well worth it apart from the night he got drunk on a bottle of Arak we bought him and fell asleep at the wheel. I bought a silver tipped cane so I could tap him on the shoulder from the back of the car to get his attention and also stop him from falling asleep on the job again. Was well worth the extra.

…yeah, I have to get to the South coast, been enquiring about how best to get there and my eldest who’s staying there says it’s so cheap, she’ll send a car from where she is and we may end up keeping him for the rest of the trip.

I’m headed to Weligama/Medigama area, think we are travelling to Hriketya, which looks fucking lovely… apparently that South coast is proper surfer’s paradise

Yeh having a driver is the norm, ours name was Hassy but we called him Chana Walla instead from It ain’t half hot mum. He seemed happy enough with it and said very much thanking you Mr Dermot all the time. Nice chap.
Yeh the beaches are amazing and Galle face is worth checking out. We kind of od’ed on beaches when we got there so we spent 3 weeks travelling round inland after that finishing with 2 nights a Galle. Once you’ve seen one nice beach you’ve seen them all imo. Medigama was lush Tbf.

…really wanted to do the mountains, train journey North etc, but not really practical to travel that far on a 10-day visit, the idea of OD’ing on beaches sounding pretty fucking great from the depths of Storm Debi tbh

Haha fair point. But if you can get to the rock of sigriya I doubt you’ll do anything like it in your lifetime again.
