rhouses …tried on the Opaline Black Bay GMT in the Tudor boutique, beautiful looker, but fuck me its a chunky watch, and at nearly £4K, they aren’t exactly the inexpensive option to Rolex any more.

That chart feels a bit dated, I’d swap Breitling (nice quality but expensive and I don’t know anyone that’s into watches that has them) with Omega (too many releases, but the good ones are really nice).

Richard Mille and Jacob & Co are ostentatious, Dubai-marketed fucking mingers IMO.

…been getting right back into mechanical watches of late after a few years in the Apple Watch wilderness- still amazing bits of tech , but I’m much more inclined to wear it when I’m actually exercising rather than all-day/everyday now.

Have a vintage Roly Datejust which was my daily for years, still lovely but in desperate need of a service and feels a little dressy for me these days… have been considering chopping it in for something a little more rugged like an old Explorer or vintage dive watch.

Some terrific microbrands out there these days- quality is going through the roof and for $500-900 you can get phenomenal bang-for-your-buck, great design, top materials, high-end Swiss/Japanese movements. Some current faves:

Unbroken1 that’s a clean tudor you’re looking at, but yeah, they’re chunky. Been a while since I’ve looked at what the brand is doing but they’ve really gone hard with the marketing over the last 6-7 years (Beckham and all that) - people use to say Tudor was basically Rolex (the mechanics) without marketing and branding spends adding to the cost.

Hate myself for obsessing over the apple watch rings again (was hardcore during covid) and everything around it dictating my behaviour, might give it up soon and work on fitness without the constant metrics. Miss having an automatic on the wrist.

rhouses Thinking about getting a new watch and tried on the new Tudor Black Bay 58 which has a lovely face but I couldn’t get with the bracelet and clasp which is much thinner underneath.

alistair New ones don’t have a date window? Are those still doing the rounds? I got mine in 2016, the one with the first inhouse movement. And then a year or two later they released a model with a date window, annoying.
